Anna’s school formally ended instruction on June 5th, and will reconvene in late August sometime. It’s hard to articulate just how ready I am for her to be on vacation! It’ll be great to have no more homework (we basically gave up on having her read out loud in April sometime) and there’ll be aRead more

Bjarki’s daycare/preschool held their graduation today, even though most of the kids will stay there until the summer vacation starts in July. Come August, Bjarki will then start attending the same school as Anna goes to, as a first grader (she’ll be a fifth grader!). As things stand now, he’ll be in a class withRead more
[Written 30 May 2013] Finnur did indeed make it back from Russia in one piece, and came back bearing gifts. The most impressive one was a ten-part matryoshka doll, which was an instant hit with Bjarki.Read more

Emma left the capital area for the first time in her living life this weekend. We decided to go for a one-night stay-over in the summerhouse Finnur co-owns with his four siblings, because we only get three weekends over the summer, and this was the first one.
We invited Holla and Óli to come along and I think (hope!) everybody had a fun time! 🙂
Anna got herself into serious parental trouble this past Friday. I happened to enter her room when she had just gone out to play with some friends that she’d had over, and randomly picked up a blanket lying on the floor. Under the blanket I found our big tablet computer meaning that Anna had:
a) played with the tablet computer unauthorized and outside of ‘computer time’ (6 pm to dinner),
b) left the tablet computer on the floor, which is a big no-no because somebody could step on it, and
c) hidden it under the blanket, meaning the stepping-on danger was even higher! (And I had in fact nearly stepped on it)
Grrrr…
When she came back inside, she immediately knew what I was talking about when I told her I’d found something in her room, and she was sentenced to two days of no tablet computing. I was deemed a boring mom in return. Oh well.
Now, this happens to be a long weekend (Yay for yet another religious holiday! It’s pretty much the only upshot of having a conjoined state and church imho… but why are there no holidays in the fall?!) so both big kids are home this Monday.
Yesterday, seeing how the tablet would be freed from my clutches this morning, Anna got the ingenious idea that I make a treasure hunt for them to hunt the tablet down. And since I am a fun parent once per year (yup, this was it) I indulged her.
So here’s this morning’s treasure hunt. Note that this was my first ever treasure hunt, so I made some beginner’s mistakes. Oh well…

Finnur’s turning into quite the world traveler… Here’s his current location: Yup, he’s in Moscow! What’s he doing there, you might ask? Well, his maternal grandfather, the inestimable Eymundur Magnússon, lived there for a while when he was young, and learnt his printing craft. Since he would have turned 100 years old this 21 MayRead more
