I Smell Milk
We invited ourselves to dinner at Adda and Halli’s on Saturday, and as usual, the cats came to say Hi to Emma. She was much less interested in them than they in her!
Semi-Sunny Days
After nothing but rain, more rain, and then – surprise! – more rain, we’ve had two days of SUN! Well, mostly sun. There have been clouds, and a chilly breeze, but SUN!
Grabby Hands
Emma’s been working hard on her hand/eye coordination. She’s getting pretty good at grabbing things, although she’s still a bit flail-y.
Independence Day
Iceland’s Independence Day was on a Monday this year, and the weather wasn’t quite sure if it was raining, or windy, or sorta ok. We spent the first part of the day at home, with the big kids mostly on the computer (they’ve discovered we now have Netflix on the TV…) while I napped with Emma here and there.
Shortly after 3 pm we finally made it out the door, and headed to our town’s Independence Day Celebration. We got a parking space not too far away, and walked over to Rútstún.
The National Museum
The big kids spent the night at Adda and Halli’s, and loooved it. I looooved not having to deal with them this morning, because Emma went to sleep super late, I went to bed even later, Emma woke up way too many times, and then was wide awake by 7 am. To add insult to sleep-deprived injury, she then only took a short nap around 9 am, waking me up from my slumber at some horrendous sleep-cycle point, which left me more tired than before the nap.
Boohoo.
Anyway. I ate lunch (and dark chocolate) and then went and picked the kids up at 1 pm. We then drove to the National Museum of Iceland (Þjóðminjasafnið) where we met up with Guðrún and Bragi and strolled around. It’s one of those museums I’ve driven past a thousand times, I’ve visited the cafe there a few times, but not actually entered since I was a wee girl. (Entering costs money.)
The museum was surprisingly beautiful, and had a lot of interesting things. I’ll have to visit someday without the kids to really get a good look at it though!
Outdoor Toy Chest
We have a collection of sand box toys, which have not really ever had a home, except in a pile in the garage, or in a big black plastic bag somewhere. Now that the city has refilled the playground sandbox (aka neighborhood kitty litter) with sand for the summer, these toys have gone back intoRead more
Car and Grass Day
First off, it’s really darn hard to go to bed at a reasonable hour when the outside looks like this close to 2 am: And with that we’ve survived the first week of No-Finnur. Seven dinners down, eleven to go.Read more
Climbing
Bjarki missed out on trying to scale the climbing wall at the Spring Festival the other day so I promised him he’d get to climb later. Today I fulfilled my promise and took the kids to the Climbing House (Klifurhúsið, family hours 16-18 on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer) after picking Bjarki up from daycare.Read more
Four Months Old!
Time has started slowing down a wee bit – it seems like it’s been a while since Emma turned three months old, whereas the first three months passed by in a hazy speedy blur. But yes, she’s four months old today, and getting stronger by the day! But yes. Finnur’s been gone for five dinnersRead more
Laugarvatn
We kindly accepted Finnur’s parent’s invitation to spend a night at their summer house at Laugarvatn this weekend.
