Fundraising Choir and Dinner with Friends
[Photos from 01 April 2017, posted online 01 JULY 2017. Three months behind now. Is catching up even doable?!]
Bjarki’s been singing with the school choir this year, mostly because the practices happen to fall on school time, and one of his bests friends is in it too.
For the past three years the choir has joined with other choirs, conducted by the same conductor, to perform as one to fund a charity.
This year the charity concert was held in a church in the Grafarvogur suburb of Reykjavík, and it was very nice.
After the concert, Bjarki and I visited a new coffee house, and then we all drove to our friends Ragnar and Agnes where we ate dinner. (17 images and 1 video total)
March 2017 in Snapshots
[Photos from 03 – 31 March 2017, posted online 07 June 2017. Took a detour into Ingress-land, and then went on a 10-day long work-trip.]
March was a rather scattershot month. Here’s what got photographed. (62 images total)

Hrefna’s 40th Birthday!
[Photos from 01 March 2017, posted online 8 May 2017. Tick, tock, tick, tock!]
I turned 40 years old the other day (ahemm, two months ago!). Let’s all pause to let that sink in.
I’d gone back and forth on the party/no party question and then the “what kind of party”, but as our schedule started lining up (the following weekend got completely filled up!), it became clear that a small gathering at home after work, with ‘bought ready food’ would be ‘it’.
I pat myself on the back for at least celebrating the day, as it was tempting (easier) not to. I’m pretty happy about the age upgrade though, and I expect to become very mature in the coming days/weeks/months/years. Any time now really. (16 images total)
The Great Snowpalooza of 2017
[Photos from 26 February – 1 March 2017, posted online 1 May 2017. Finnur and Anna are in Paris this long weekend, on her confirmation gift trip.]
This winter was a warm one. Even climate-change-y warm if you are inclined to believe scientists.
In fact, February was so warm that the news were full of photos of trees starting to bloom way too early, and birds preparing to lay eggs, also way too early…
Thankfully, a freak snow-dump turned winter back on, with style. Yup, we went to bed with almost no snow, and woke up to 50-60cm (almost 2 feet) of powder covering everything!
Happily, the snow-dump happened on a Sunday, so we had lots of time to clear the driveway, and saw neighbors out we’ve never seen before. 🙂 (42 images total)

Parenting Lecture, Sporty School, and Winter Break – The Warm February
[Photos from 15-24 February 2017, posted online 13 April 2017. Finnur has the kids at his parents’ summer house. I’m going to see JCS, and then I’ll join them later tonight.]
We continue muddling through life. There were parenting lessons, kiddy sports-school, winter break at the summer house at Laugarvatn, and then at little bit of snow finally showed up. (20 images total)

The Flu Fighting, Yule Ending, Party Attending Start to 2017
[Photos from 01-09 January 2017, posted online 26 31 March 2017. Looking at the ocean from a Hafnarfjörður cafe Chilly but bright out. At Gló.]
We spent the first week of January fighting the flu. Finnur was the first to fall, and then we all got it, except Anna, who still gloats about it!
Some of us did manage to crawl out of the house on 6 January to shoot up a few fireworks and say goodbye to the year at Finnur’s parent’s place. The remainder stayed at home and cracked open the ginger bread house that had been taunting the kids for a couple of weeks.
Finnur and I also managed to drag our coughing tails to a new-years party, which was a lot of fun. (12 images total)

Inbetween Yule and New Year’s
[Photos from 27-30 December 2016, posted online 12 March 2017. Fueled by a cinnamon bun!]
This year was a bad one for employees, as most of the public holidays associated with Christmas fell on a weekend. The only public holiday of the entire season was Monday the 26th! (The unions need to start fixing this!!)
I did get an extra day off (Tue), and I took a sick day off (Wed), but ended up at work for two days (Thu & Fri), which was a bit weird. Here are a few snapshots from that week (9 images total)

Gingerbread for the Yule of 2016
[Photos from 23 December 2016, posted online 25 February 2016. Just in the nick of time.]
Anna has learnt to be very persistent in reminding us to schedule ginger-bread-house-making before Christmas. This year, we managed to squeeze it in on 23 December, and to make sure we carried through with the plan, we invited Holla and Óli to join us. (13 images total)
Ex-Californians’ Thanksgiving 2016
[Saturday 26 November 2016, posted online on 25 January 2017. Get hungry just thinking about it!]
A subsection of the Icelanders that we got to know in California, and moved back home to Iceland, have met annually for thanksgiving for a few years now.
Soffía gracefully offered up her home for the festivities this year, and all the guests brought something for the communal table.
We overate, and everybody had a wonderful time! (28 images total)
November Snapshots
[Photos from 05 – 25 November 2016, posted online on 25 January 2017. Very wet day in downtown Reykjavik.]
Finnur took off for a worktrip to California on 31 October, and returned home on 13 November. Meanwhile I tried to keep all the balls in the air by myself, which mostly means long days, and not a lot of battery-charging time.
A few days after Finnur arrived, all the screws and the plate from my ankle breakage were removed. Recovery kept me out of work for almost a week, but it was a lot less traumatic than the original injury.
Thus, only a few photos got taken over most of November, here are some of them. (28 images total)
