[Written 8 August 2013. \u00a0This is getting comically late.]<\/p>\n

On our way back from the goat-farm<\/a>, we stopped by the waterfalls Hraunfossar<\/a> and Barnafoss<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’d seen pictures of Hraunfossar<\/a> (The Lava Falls) before, but they somehow never quite capture just how odd\/pretty\/special they are. \u00a0Essentially, it’s a series of waterfalls that leak out from under<\/em> a lava-field into a big river:<\/p>\n

Looking downstream. It’s funny how less impressive this is on photos than in real life.<\/p><\/div>\n

The neat thing about these falls is that the water emerges from the middle of the cliff, and not from the top. So it’s like the stone itself is leaking. (Well, it is!)<\/p><\/div>\n

The group by Barnafoss (Children’s Falls) which is upstream from Hraunfossar. There used to be a stone arch over it, but a couple of kids fell off it in the olden days and drowned so the arch was demolished to prevent further accidents.<\/p><\/div>\n

There are a lot of walking paths there, but we didn’t venture much further… it was getting late and the kids were getting hungry and cranky.<\/p><\/div>\n
