Iceland’s Independence Day was on a Monday this year, and the weather wasn’t quite sure if it was raining, or windy, or sorta ok. \u00a0We spent the first part of the day at home, with the big kids mostly on the computer (they’ve discovered we now have Netflix on the TV…) while I napped with Emma here and there.<\/p>\n

Shortly after 3 pm we finally made it out the door, and headed to our town’s Independence Day Celebration. \u00a0We got a parking space not too far away, and walked over to R\u00fatst\u00fan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Independence<\/a>

Independence Day for me as a kid was always about the cool candy, so we started by getting some candy floss. \u00a0We picked the wrong line to buy it, so we missed almost all of the songs the Eurovision Guy sang, only catching the very end of his Eurovision entry.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Next<\/a>

Next up: lollipops shaped like soothies.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Emma<\/a>

Emma thankfully fell asleep for a little while, and woke up in a good mood.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Waiting<\/a>

Waiting in line to enter the bouncy castle area. There was a line for pretty much everything. I’m thinking next year we might show up super late, when almost everyone’s gone, to enjoy the rides with less waiting!<\/p><\/div>\n

There were five bouncy castles fenced in, and they let 20 kids or so in at a time for about 5 minutes to jump around. I wonder if lines-per-castle would be a better idea?<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Emma<\/a>

Emma got tired of lying down, and I sat her up so that she could look at the world a bit. \u00a0This is looking at the bouncy castle line.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Emma<\/a>

Emma was getting hungry and antsy, so I figured it was time to head back. The kids demanded a quick stop at the playground first though.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Various<\/a>

Various sports and dancing organizations rent those little houses to sell candy and food.<\/p><\/div>\n

Walking back up the hill towards the car. We got lucky and stumbled upon a small convenience store on the way back to the car, which meant we could stock up on milk and fruits without making a special car stop at the big store with a cranky Emma.<\/p><\/div>\n
