{"id":7410,"date":"2013-02-07T12:29:45","date_gmt":"2013-02-07T12:29:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=7410"},"modified":"2013-02-07T12:59:53","modified_gmt":"2013-02-07T12:59:53","slug":"its-official-i-have-pre-eclampsia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/its-official-i-have-pre-eclampsia\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Official: I Have Pre-Eclampsia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yup, it&#8217;s my first pregnancy all over again &#8211; kind of. \u00a0(Insert obligatory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z_KmNZNT5xw\">Deja-vu Matrix reference<\/a> here.)<\/p>\n<p>I just returned from the &#8216;daycare&#8217; (aka non-stress testing\/monitoring) at the hospital. \u00a0There I was informed that my 24-hour urine sample results had enough protein to qualify me as having crossed the threshold from just having &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uptodate.com\/contents\/gestational-hypertension\">gestational hypertension<\/a>&#8216; into having &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmedhealth\/PMH0001900\/\">pre-eclampsia<\/a>&#8216; (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/viewer?url=https%3A%2F%2Faskja.lsh.is%2Fbarnalaeknar%2Fnemar%2Ffyrirlestrar%2FNburalkningar%2FPreeclampsia.ppt\">me\u00f0g\u00f6ngueitrun<\/a>). \u00a0Oh fun!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7411\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_20130207_095017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7411\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7411\" alt=\"Being 'monitored', one sensor is for the baby's heart-rate, the other for (uterine) muscle contractions.  I wonder if it's the blood pressure medication, but there have been a whole lot less contractions now than when I carried Anna. Weird.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When I crossed this threshold in the US, I was officially at 38w5d, and was basically given two hours to get my butt to the hospital to be induced. \u00a0Now I&#8217;m at 37w5d (ultrasound estimate, the old-style calendar method would put me at 38w1d), which is &#8216;full term&#8217;, but the docs apparently are in no hurry to induce.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it would seem like the docs really rather prefer not to induce previous c-section women. \u00a0And since I have no actual physical &#8216;symptoms&#8217; of pre-eclampsia (headache, vision flicks, abdominal pain, nausea), and my blood-pressure is behaving itself on the current medication, I&#8217;m being put on a &#8216;wait-and-see&#8217; schedule.<\/p>\n<p>As of right now, I&#8217;m to come back this Monday for a blood-test and monitoring. \u00a0If everything looks mostly ok at that point, then I&#8217;m to show up again on Thursday, and at that point they&#8217;ll probably start discussing induction for realz.<\/p>\n<p>This plan is of course contingent on me staying\u00a0asymptomatic. \u00a0If I do develop a headache, funny vision, abdominal pain, nausea, or if I notice less movements, then to the hospital I go.<\/p>\n<p>Better go practice not being paranoid&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yup, it&#8217;s my first pregnancy all over again &#8211; kind of. \u00a0(Insert obligatory Deja-vu Matrix reference here.)
