{"id":6935,"date":"2012-12-05T11:35:58","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T11:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=6935"},"modified":"2012-12-05T11:44:47","modified_gmt":"2012-12-05T11:44:47","slug":"warning-some-behavior-may-be-hereditary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/warning-some-behavior-may-be-hereditary\/","title":{"rendered":"Warning: Some Behavior May Be Hereditary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the many joys of parenthood (and I&#8217;m very tempted to write &#8216;joys&#8217; and be all sarcastic here, but I&#8217;m trying not to because it&#8217;s borderline endearing) is noticing eerily familiar behavior in one&#8217;s offspring. \u00a0Of course, these manifest to various degrees, but I think Finnur and I both agree that Anna takes a lot after me, and Bjarki is very much Finnur&#8217;s son.<\/p>\n<p>The latest manifestation of Anna being a mini-Hrefna: Irrational behavior when it comes to reading books, particularly when they get exciting.<\/p>\n<p>You see, late yesterday afternoon, Anna&#8217;s class and parents (not me though) went on a walking excursion in the dark with flash-lights. \u00a0They drank hot chocolate, and had cookies, and sure enough, the excessive sugar gave Anna both a head and stomach ache shortly after dinner.<\/p>\n<p>She was all ready to go to sleep super early when I foolishly grabbed the (English) <a href=\"http:\/\/harrypotter.wikia.com\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Prisoner_of_Azkaban\">Harry Potter 3<\/a> book out of habit and read her one page &#8211; after which she was going to right to sleep. \u00a0(I&#8217;ve been reading her one page and then she reads a few more before nodding off.)<\/p>\n<p>Out of all the pages in the darn book (which is probably my favorite of all the HP books), I happened to read the one where <a href=\"http:\/\/harrypotter.wikia.com\/wiki\/Sirius_Black\">Sirius<\/a> meets the kids for the first time. \u00a0 Gaaah!<\/p>\n<p>And sure enough, the head and stomach aches magically disappeared, and Anna read for almost an hour more before finally nodding off.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not really the irrational behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Uh, uh, no, not at all.<\/p>\n<p>The irrational part came this morning when instead of finding a fast-asleep-Anna at shortly past 7 am, her door was closed, the light was on, she was wide awake in her room, all giddily excited, and she confessed she&#8217;d been reading! \u00a0Apparently she&#8217;d woken up at 6 am to go to the bathroom, and then she &#8220;just couldn&#8217;t fall asleep again&#8221; so she picked up the Harry Potter book and continued reading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Yeah. \u00a0I&#8217;ve done that. \u00a0Sssshhhh&#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the many joys of parenthood (and I&#8217;m very tempted to write &#8216;joys&#8217; and be all sarcastic here, but I&#8217;m trying not to because it&#8217;s borderline endearing) is noticing eerily familiar behavior in one&#8217;s offspring. \u00a0Of course, these manifest to various degrees, but I think Finnur and I both agree that Anna takes a<a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/warning-some-behavior-may-be-hereditary\/\" title=\"Read More\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6935","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","post-container col-md-12"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6935","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6935"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6935\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":6939,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6935\/revisions\/6939"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6935"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6935"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6935"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
