{"id":6872,"date":"2012-11-29T10:20:36","date_gmt":"2012-11-29T10:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=6872"},"modified":"2012-11-29T10:21:59","modified_gmt":"2012-11-29T10:21:59","slug":"bjarki-eyesight-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/bjarki-eyesight-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Bjarki Eyesight Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just returned from taking Bjarki to the eye-doctor (ophthalmologist). \u00a0She did some initial tests and decided she wanted to do a full measurement, so he got the &#8216;lovely&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aapos.org\/terms\/conditions\/43\">eye-drops that\u00a0dilate the pupils<\/a>, and take 20-30 mins to take full effect.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully there was a nice assortment of children&#8217;s books in the waiting room, so we read for a while, although Bjarki&#8217;s mood soured considerably once he realized he couldn&#8217;t see the book as well as he&#8217;s used to (side-effect of the drops). \u00a0He therefore wasn&#8217;t exactly a happy camper once the doctor called him in again, but thankfully did everything she asked him to do nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>Her conclusions was that he&#8217;s &#8216;in a gray area&#8217; with regards to glasses or no glasses, but in the end she decided against them for now. \u00a0It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aapos.org\/terms\/conditions\/54\">apparently normal for kids to be somewhat far-sighted<\/a>,\u00a0with glasses not usually prescribed until they reach +3 or +4. \u00a0Right now Bjarki measures at +2.25 and +2.5 (R and L), with a tiny bit of astigmatism (0.5), so he&#8217;s on the high-end of normal, and crossing his eyes again a little bit to focus.<\/p>\n<p>Her educated guess was that Bjarki may end up with glasses next fall (when he starts school) and will need to wear them for a few years, much like another boy in our street, who is now glasses-free. \u00a0So we&#8217;ll just have to wait and see!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just returned from taking Bjarki to the eye-doctor (ophthalmologist). \u00a0She did some initial tests and decided she wanted to do a full measurement, so he got the &#8216;lovely&#8217;\u00a0eye-drops that\u00a0dilate the pupils, and take 20-30 mins to take full effect.
