{"id":6862,"date":"2012-11-28T22:03:25","date_gmt":"2012-11-28T22:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=6862"},"modified":"2012-11-29T02:33:56","modified_gmt":"2012-11-29T02:33:56","slug":"japan-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/japan-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan-fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a rather unfortunate <a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/the-universe-loves-thwarting-my-nap-plans\/\">beginning to the day<\/a>, things took a turn for the better around lunchtime.<\/p>\n<p>The families of all the 56 fourth graders had been summoned to the school at lunchtime, for a little &#8216;get-together&#8217; to enjoy the fruits of their labor. \u00a0The labor involved learning about Japan for the past few weeks, and doing projects related to Japan, many of whom were kid-directed (I think). \u00a0So the parents all congregated to hear the kids give a slideshow-talk about Japan, they counted to 10 in Japanese, a few kids read <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Haiku\">haikus<\/a> they&#8217;d written, and the final act was singing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BIxxw06YhlE\">Twinkle, twinkle little star in Japanese, backed by an adorable YouTube video<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6863\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121128_122029.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6863\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6863\" title=\"IMG_20121128_122029\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121128_122029.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121128_122029.jpg 660w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121128_122029-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kids singing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BIxxw06YhlE\">Kira Kira Boshi (Twinkle twinkle little star) in Japanese<\/a>. Anna&#8217;s was &#8220;\u00cd l\u00edtilli borg, kemur mamma heim \u00ed kv\u00f6ld, \u00fea\u00f0 er kalt \u00fati.&#8221; (In a small city, a mother comes home tonight, it is cold outside.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After we&#8217;d perused our fill, Anna abruptly changed her afternoon plans and went home with a classmate of hers, instead of bringing a different classmate home. \u00a0That left me with a couple of gloooorious afternoon nap hours (finally!), before I had to round Anna up and ship her off to swim practice. \u00a0Being one to live dangerously, I picked Bjarki up shortly thereafter and also took him to the swimming pool, his cold be damned! \u00a0After Anna&#8217;s practice, the kids played in the indoor pool, and then the quite large bubbly massage hot-tub for a good while. \u00a0Once home we were on familiar ground of the dinner-to-bed routine, which went fairly smoothly. \u00a0It&#8217;s now 10 pm, and I think I&#8217;ll be turning in early tonight! \u00a0Or at least I&#8217;ll try&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s hoping for an uneventful tomorrow!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a rather unfortunate beginning to the day, things took a turn for the better around lunchtime.
