{"id":6615,"date":"2012-11-06T22:38:34","date_gmt":"2012-11-06T22:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=6615"},"modified":"2012-11-06T22:47:08","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T22:47:08","slug":"breaking-the-bus-barrier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/breaking-the-bus-barrier\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking the Bus Barrier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I decided to try something &#8216;new&#8217;. \u00a0Yes, I took a <a href=\"http:\/\/straeto.is\/\">bus<\/a> for the first time in probably a decade (if not more)!<\/p>\n<p>My goal was to get from our home to Finnur&#8217;s workplace, and to collect the car for some errands. \u00a0I was running a little late, so I didn&#8217;t fancy a 90 minute walk (according to Google Maps), so instead I took a bus some of the way there, and walked the rest (40 minutes). \u00a0The whole trip still took me almost an hour.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6616\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_115601.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6616\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6616\" title=\"IMG_20121106_115601\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_115601.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_115601.jpg 660w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_115601-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6616\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I&#8217;ve contemplated taking the bus before, but never acted on it. My main problem: No change at home to pay for the exact fare. Today&#8217;s solution: I opened Anna&#8217;s piggy bank and borrowed some money. When I boarded the bus though, I remembered that &#8216;back in the old days&#8217; the drivers would sometimes sell discounted 10-trip tickets. \u00a0Luckily for me, this one had exactly one of those to sell, and I had the cash to buy. Those blue-ish tiles (copper?) were all the rage some ten years ago or so for fancy new structures. Further to the right lies the &#8216;proper&#8217; path, which is paved.<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_6621\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_131222.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6621\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6621\" title=\"IMG_20121106_131222\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_131222.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_131222.jpg 660w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/IMG_20121106_131222-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I arrived late enough to miss lunch with Finnur, so after saying a quick hello, I went to the restaurant <a href=\"http:\/\/nautholl.is\/\">Nauth\u00f3ll<\/a> that lives behind <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ru.is\/\">Reykjavik University<\/a>, and ate lunch there. The place seemed to be very popular with &#8216;the ladies that lunch&#8217;, but since I was solo, I just read stuff on my phone.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After lunch, I headed off to run my errands, before collecting Finnur again at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>As is customary on Tuesdays, I ended the day by taking Bjarki to his swim-school session, which is held in the indoor-pool of our local swimming pool. \u00a0Much to my surprise the outdoor pool was much busier than usual, even though the temperature was 3C\/37F, and it was dark, raining and blowing a cool breeze! \u00a0Not only was there traffic in the three remaining swimming lanes (the formal sports-club swim practice eats up three lanes around 5 pm), but the hot tubs were well populated, and kids were playing chasing games which involved climbing the two-story high unenclosed stairwell up to the slide entrance!<\/p>\n<p>I did have a lovely swim though, and an equally lovely water-jet massage, so maybe the people at the pool weren&#8217;t so crazy after all? \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I decided to try something &#8216;new&#8217;. \u00a0Yes, I took a bus for the first time in probably a decade (if not more)!
