[Hrefna and I walked over to the NICU today and Bjarki Freyr had his UV lights on (for the jaundice)<\/i>]<\/p>\n

[When we showed up we got a pleasant surprise. Hrefna was allowed to hold him for half an hour. They estimated he was strong enough to try weaning him off the ventilator and try the CPAP – a hose in his nose providing pressure to the lungs so he can breath more easily on his own. We jumped on the opportunity and Hrefna got to hold him while I took some pictures.<\/i>]<\/p>\n

[Naturally, Bjarki Freyr was not happy with this and his face for a while looked like he was crying out although he made no sound and no tears came (hasn’t learned that trick yet). But, it was difficult for us to watch, especially the mother – even though this was a positive development and a joyous occasion for the little guy<\/i>]<\/p>\n

[After this he was flipped on his stomach, and he calmed down. When I came back a a little later he was still sleeping gently and nothing eventful had occurred. They did tell us that they expect the premies to go back and forth on the ventilator as they tire out, so we should not be disappointed if he goes back on it. The treatment for the hole in the heart is going well too; the hole is almost gone and they expect it to have disappeared by the time the next dose of medication works its course.<\/i>]<\/p>\n

[In other news, my mother (Anna) is flying out Wednesday night and staying with us for three weeks. We are very much looking forward to that. And finally, a comment Anna S\u00f3lr\u00fan made the other day when I was reading a book. “Daddy, close your eyes”. (I complied). She then reaches over and gently kisses each eyelid, and tells me: “daddy, your eyes are so ‘kissy'” \ud83d\ude42<\/i>]<\/p>\n
