[As they expected, Bjarki got tired of breathing on his own on the CPAP and was put back on the ventilator. He also had more jaundice treatment, since they are limiting his fluid intake, which helps the hole in the heart to close. Tomorrow they will take a picture of his heart, and if the hole has disappeard then they’ll set his fluid levels back to normal again, otherwise we can expect a “minor” heart surgery. The fluid apparently helps contain the jaundice. They also inserted a pic-line through his foot (because tomorrow they’ll unplug the lines through his umbilical cord), which went well and is supposed to remain for a while if everything works out. <\/p>\n
It took us a very long time to get out of the house today and in the end it was the heat that drove us out around 5pm. Finnur took “the Annas” to visit Bjarki while I tested the breast-milk pumping room at the hospital. I remained there as the rest of them went grocery shopping. Bjarki looked exhausted the whole time, and was in complete relaxation, looking like he was sunbathing on the beach with sunglasses. <\/p>\n
Today was Independence day and the daycare was closed. One of the families at the daycare had invited Anna to come with them to the beach this morning so the rest of us could sleep in. Grandma Anna, however, woke up bright and early and tidied up and was out sunbathing when we finally got out of bed.<\/p>\n
But, all in all – no major news, per se. We hope everything remains calm overnight. Tomorrow Bjarki will be one week old and his head ultrasound will be repeated to check again for bleeding on the brain. We expect to have a lot of discussions with some staff at the hospital, some of which will probably be easier than others.<\/i>]<\/p>\n
