While Finnur kept an eye on the kids, my cousin R\u00edkey and I got started on making curtains for the living room. I’d bought a thin fabric that measured 3 m tall by 8 m wide (about 10 ft by 26 ft) and it needed to by cut in half (2 x 4 m) and then shortened to 195 cm. Thankfully the bottom edge was already ‘done’, but wrangling so much fabric was non-trivial! \u00a0Here R\u00edkey shows her apprehension as she’s about to start cutting it in half.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

Let the cutting commence! R\u00edkey has spent about as much time with her sewing machine as I’ve spent with my camera. I felt pretty safe handing her this assignment. \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/div>\n

The plumber dropped by to install the last little bit: a handle for the drain-valve.<\/p><\/div>\n

Look, I helped!! \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0Preparing to measure exactly<\/em> 195 cm – over and over again.<\/p><\/div>\n

R\u00edkey, aka The Sewing Ninja, about to start using these terribly convenient plumbing feathers to accomplish the ‘exactly<\/em>‘ in ‘exactly<\/em> 195 cm’! \u00a0Why so picky? \u00a0Because these curtains are going to be hanging on top of\u00a0<\/em>the windowsill, which is perfectly straight.<\/p><\/div>\n

R\u00edkey planning the next move with the entire width of the curtains measured, folded, and pinned. \u00a0She then proceeded to cut them to the proper height, and that was as far as we got that day.<\/p><\/div>\n

The next day (14 July 2012) we were lucky enough that R\u00edkey was available again for a bit, so she came over with the kids and sewing stuff and did her magic.<\/p>\n
