[Got a call this morning from the NICU that some labwork that they’d sent in this morning had come back indicating that Bjarki’s starting to fight an infection. Apparently he had a rough night, with lots of apnea spells which can be an infection indicator. I’m told he still looks good though, but just as a precaution they’re giving him a “complete sepsis workup” – hooking up an antibiotic IV, doing a lumbar puncture, sending off blood and urine for culture, etc…<\/p>\n
On the plus side he’s still tolerating his huge milk feed, 27 mL every 3 hours, but the nurse practitioner warned me that at the first sign of tummy trouble he’d be taken off that. Yesterday I had a conversation with them over that fact that he’s not been gaining much weight, and they were going to fortify his milk (then at 25 mL every 3 hours, the maximum for his weight) but I must have grimaced and asked a lot of “what’s that going to do” and “can’t you just give him more milk?” questions, since they decided to up his fluids and reevaluate on Monday. But that was before “el infection”.<\/p>\n
But I must admit feeling “listened to” since I’ve tried to relay the message that his big sister is a “very good eater” and in the “95th percentile for her height” so if they’ve got the same genes, he’ll probably be above average in his food intake.<\/p>\n
Also yesterday: Anna’s play. This time she was one of the hoard of rabbits in the production of Rabbit Stew. There were also veggies and three dogs. It all went really well, and was really well attended. I guess our little girl is growing up! \ud83d\ude42<\/i>]<\/p>\n
