Our summer-house was located 30 km (19 miles) south of Akureyri<\/a> (Iceland’s capital of the north), which meant that we had to drive all the way there to get gas and\u00a0groceries\u00a0(Americans: feel free to roll your eyes at our ‘long’ distances). \u00a0Yes, we were pretty much located in the middle of farm country, but it was really lovely.<\/p>\n

Our first day was therefore spent driving to Akureyri and back and then just chillin’ at the house!<\/p>\n

The pizza at Bryggjan<\/a> was ok, nothing too spectacular, but did its job.<\/p><\/div>\n

We walked a short distance to a nearby square (barely visible behind the white car).<\/p><\/div>\n

Anna’s really good about carrying Bjarki on her back when he gets frustrated with his short legs.<\/p><\/div>\n

Walking back to our cars. Akureyri is in a long fjord, so there are mountains on both sides.<\/p><\/div>\n

I didn’t take any pictures of our ambling through the grocery store. \u00a0Nobody had bothered putting together a proper shopping list (Adda did try though), so it was all a bit haphazard, but we did seem to end up with enough of just about everything.<\/p>\n

Back at the house the weather was very very nice, and the kids got permission to splash around in the hot tub while the men sunned, er, kept watch.<\/p><\/div>\n

Hot tubs are awesome by definition.<\/p><\/div>\n

Busy-bees getting everything ready. \u00a0The cupboards on the far left are the disguised fridge and freezer. \u00a0That window on top leads to the spacious loft where there were four single beds and some of the kids slept.<\/p><\/div>\n

Getting the kids to bed at a reasonable time was an on-going battle (the loft didn’t have any curtains) but once they were settled, the adults played games way too long into the night.<\/p>\n
