[After spending the weekend coughing like a madwoman and talking in a raspy voice, I made my way to the health center this morning. The nurse practitioner<\/a> diagnosed me with bronchitis<\/a>, and gave me albuterol<\/a> to help me breathe. Anna’s also coughing, but not as severely as I am, so I’m hoping she’ll get over it herself. Finnur only got “something in his lungs” for about four days, but seems to have gotten over it quickly. <\/p>\n

Since I’m banned from the hospital for a while now, Finnur’s taken over visiting Bjarki. He went over there after dinner and arrived to find Bjarki wide awake and working on a poop! Finnur held him for over an hour and he told me Bjarki fell right asleep on his chest. Awwww… \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I talked to Bjarki’s nurse practitioner today and they’ve decided to accelerate his feed increases from extra 2 mL<\/a> every 12 hours to extra 2 mL every 6 hours. As of midnight (i.e. now) he should be up to 25 mL but his maximum (and goal) for his weight is 32 mL. If all goes well and he keeps tolerating it, they’ll pull out the PICC line on Wednesday I think. He’s still on the CPAP (no need rocking the boat too much) and tomorrow is his first eye exam, looking for signs of the evil ROP<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While talking to the nurse she asked me, on behalf of the new attending doctor, what Bjarki’s name means. I know that originally it meant “little bear”, but now it’s more associated with the tree “ilmbj\u00f6rk” (Bjarki is the male version of Bj\u00f6rk and “ilm-” means “scented” ). This tree is also known as “Betula pubescens” or “Downy Birch<\/a>“. Not coincidentally, “Reynir” is also a type of tree. Its Latin name is “Sorbus aucuparia<\/a>” but in English it’s referred to as “Rowan” or “Mountain Ash”. “Reynir” also literally means “he tries”. “Freyr<\/a>” is the norse fertility god, and “Hugi” means “mind” (although I think it may have a more complex meaning than that). <\/i>]<\/p>\n

Hann f\u00f3r einmitt n\u00fana eftir kv\u00f6ldmat og m\u00e6tti einmitt \u00fear sem litli drengurinn var gla\u00f0vakandi og \u00ed mi\u00f0jum k\u00faka-kl\u00ed\u00f0um! Hann f\u00e9kk s\u00ed\u00f0an a\u00f0 halda \u00e1 honum, og sag\u00f0i m\u00e9r a\u00f0 Bjarki hef\u00f0i steinsofna\u00f0 \u00e1 bringunni \u00e1 honum. Awwww…<\/p>\n
