Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, of &#8220;Then and now&#8221;<\/a>, a radio show on \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruv.is\/english\">National Channel One (R\u00e1s 1)<\/a> , aka &#8216;The Old Vapor&#8217; (gamla gufan). \u00a0She asked me to come in and be interviewed about microwave ovens and microwaves in general (are they dangerous?!) for a segment in <a href=\"http:\/\/podcast.ruv.is\/fyrr_og_nu\/fyrr_og_n\u00fa_6.sept._2011.mp3\">an episode on cooking methods, which aired on 6 September 2011<\/a> (my portion starts around minute 25 &#8211; I still haven&#8217;t listened to all of what I rambled on about &#8211; sorry Icelandic only).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5762\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_20110819_095416.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5762\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5762\" title=\"IMG_20110819_095416\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_20110819_095416.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"495\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_20110819_095416.jpg 495w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_20110819_095416-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image taken on 19 August 2011. We didn&#8217;t use the fancy studio equipment, just a small recording device, but the studio had nice acoustics. \u00a0I love how the &#8216;Cough&#8217; button is by far the most used! \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Anyway, this is just a long preamble to saying that I met up with Hanna again today, this time to ramble on about the history of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electrical_telegraph\">electric telegraph<\/a> and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wireless_telegraphy\">wireless telegraph<\/a>. \u00a0Of course I didn&#8217;t really know any of the stuff I was to talk about until this morning, when <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Telegraphy\">Wikipedia<\/a> came to my rescue. \u00a0So thank goodness for Wikipedia! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I was contacted by the host, Hanna G.
