Somebody told me that infants don’t start producing their own blood until after they’re full term so the combo of constant blood draws (to check the status of this and that), and just growing in general, slowly drain the little ones. Nothing else really new today except that he got 34 mL of milk every 3 hours and is pooping like a champ. It sounded like he’s still “desatting”, but not having as many “Bradys” or apnea spells, which is good.

My morning project today was a phone-hunt for frozen fish! We used to be able to buy 12 lbs (5 kg) frozen-at-sea Icelandic cod and haddock from a local broker, but now the fish is no longer stored in the Bay Area, but LA instead. So I called the two food distributors the broker suggested, but of course they only sell to hospitals, restaurants and the like, and charge something like $1000 for just setting up an account (or was it delivery!?). Anyway, in the end I stumbled on this distributer, but sadly the guy told me that both cod and haddock fillets are hard to find out here.

After coming up essentially empty handed, I ventured out of the house to pick up my bike from the shop (had a flat tire) and then went to see Prof. Tyler who’s in the area these days. We had a long nice chat about things, and thankfully he thinks I can recover from this academic setback (i.e. I haven’t really worked since June) and eventually graduate. Yay for that. It was nice to see some of the Packard troops again, and I found there’s a new guy in my office. He looked appropriately terrified for being about to start his second year in grad school at Stanford. 🙂]

Bjarki fékk blóðgjöf í dag, heila 25 mL!
