The day of Bjarki’s behind-the-wheel driving exam arrived, and he passed! He downloaded his official electronic driver’s license, and went for a drive with his big sister. How they grow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went frisbee golfing (folfing) after Anna finished her summer employment, I finally attacked the weeds in the backyard, before we all headed to Munich, Germany for our “formal” summer vacation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first afternoon there was spent searching for an open grocery store, going out for dinner, and walking around the English Garden<\/a> to where the surfers hang out<\/a> (Eisbachwelle<\/a> on the river Isar<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday 01 August 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n

Bjarki taking his big sister out for his first drive as a (provisionally) licensed driver! (She was too young to get to accompany him on his learner’s permit.) In the next two or three years, he needs to not do anything strike-worthy for a whole year and then he’ll get a permanent license.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Earlier that day it had “rained cats and dogs”, kind of like in foreign lands. We don’t often see such heavy rain, but it was quite emblematic of this “summer”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

Friday 02 August 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n

With all my heel and foot issues in general I’ve started paying more attention to how much shoes shape my toes. Modern shoes have bizarrely tight toe-boxes, and I think my big-toe is now permanently turned a bit inwards at the top, not to mention the curled up little toe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

Playing at the gym, the group classes had gone on a well deserved vacation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

To celebrate Anna’s last day at work, we went out to play folf in a nearby forested area (Gu\u00f0mundarlundur<\/a>).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

Anna’s the most practiced of all of us. That tree tunnel is tricky for all though, because if you’re super-unlucky, the disc rolls far downhill, orthogonally to where you want it to go. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

Saturday 03 August 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n

It had finally stopped raining for a bit, so it was the last chance to get any weeding done for a while, as we were departing for Germany in the morning. So I went out with the new rake, and went to town.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

Earth visible again. It had been covered with weeds for a bit too long for my liking…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n
\"\"<\/a>
I ended up just making piles of weeds up at the top, sort of out of sight.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n
\"\"<\/a>
I ran out of gas once I got to the last little bit, which has utterly gotten away from me.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n

We’d been warned there was staff shortage at the Munich airport, and that our bags would arrive late. It looked like there were two employees, and it took at least 45 minutes to get our bags.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

Almost everything is closed in Germany on Sundays, and the only grocery store that I could find that was open was at the central train station, so there we went!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n

I’d found a Sushi\/Thai restaurant<\/a> that was open on Sundays, a couple of blocks from our apartment, so that was our next stop.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n
