[Photos taken 01 – 16 October 2021, posted online 29 January 2022. Covid is in the house, but the timing of human interactions was such that it made sense for Finnur & Emma to move and hide from the rest of us in our old apartment at Finnur’s parents’ place, while I held down the covid home-fort with Bjarki & Anna who by this point have both contracted it.<\/em>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

October’s social highlight was without a doubt a long-planned wedding in Finnur’s family (photographed by yours truly), which happily fit snugly in between covid-waves, and nobody got infected! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was also a birthday party on my side of the family, autumn colors became all the rage, the sun got less and less inclined to shine on us, work hosted a clean-up day, some gardening happened, the gym was visited repeatedly, I went on an evening hike which I really need to repeat in brighter times, and then we hung out with some friends in the country. (35-ish images total)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work hosted a ‘plucking’ session, where if you went out and plucked garbage from the surrounding area (could also be your home area if you were working from home) you could come get a goodie bag. I clambered up on to the old lava field that separates my office from a big road and Ikea, as most of the low lying areas had already been combed clean.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Oh, to have a better phone camera in low light. This fallen berry bunch was lightly coated in frost, just as the sun was rising as I arrived at work. Just too pretty to let go without at least attempting a photo!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

While at work, I got a text message from Ikea that a light fixture I’d been waiting for had finally arrived. I remembered meeting my cousin a while back at Ikea, and discussing how she was also waiting for this light fixture, so I gave her a call and bought enough of them for two of us! It’s better to be safe than sorry with Ikea these days, their stock is in sorry shape. I think we’ve been waiting for six months for the doors to Bjarki’s clothing cabinet to show up!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I brought in a cocoa-sugar mixture, in the hope that I could make my own mocha at work using expresso from the coffee machine, and this milk “frother”, but the milk wasn’t really warm enough for it to really work. So, my pit-stop-at-the-cafe-before-work kept happening…<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

About to enter the kids’ school for the first time in eons, for a parent-teacher conference! It was the first time face-to-face meeting Emma’s & Bjarki’s teachers that they’d both had for over a year!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Anna’s school quarter was drawing to a close, and she put up a timeline of due-dates on her closet. I wish I’d have thought of that back in the day!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Part of the walking group, as we were about to head out on that month’s afternoon hike. The destination had been changed at the last minute due to unfortunate weather conditions, and moved to B\u00farfellsgj\u00e1<\/a>, which apparently is nice and calm when the other place is super windy!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

By 7:30 pm it was pitch dark outside. No falling into that crack!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We made it up to the crater rim, but it was too dark to really see anything, so we just skedaddled right back down again. By this time the hiking boots felt slightly more sensible. We were just a hop and skip outside the urban area.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Quick stop for a snack at 8 pm. We then hiked back to the cars, and I hung out for a bit because otherwise I would have been home silly early! The parking lot<\/a> was about a 12 minute drive from my house!!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

By brother showed me his new favorite torture device, a treadmill that you can also turn into a “sleigh”. The belt becomes stubborn, and you have to exert force on it to move it, aka the “sleigh”. It’s actually quite well done!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
