That’s the sound that time makes these days. \u00a0I blink, and it’s all of a sudden well past mid-November! \u00a0Which is good because that means teaching is almost over and sanity may return. \u00a0Maybe. \u00a0There’s always next semester to fret over, but I’m trying to remain nonchalant.<\/p>\n

The biggest annoyingly-drawn-out-event of the past couple of weeks (during which there has been no blogging) has been the presence of the Incredible Lurking Stomach Bug of Doom. \u00a0Anna was the first to go on 4 November, Bjarki got it on 9 November and Finnur on 15 November. \u00a0I sit here feeling not entirely well, but keep hoping that I’ll escape with nothing more than this burpy tiredness that’s been pestering me since last night. \u00a0I’m keeping my fingers crossed!<\/p>\n

In between the mountains of hurl-related laundry, and us trying to juggle who minds the sick kid when, stuff’s been relatively quiet. \u00a0The biggest event was Finnur giving a talk at the dedication of a new very very fancy building of\u00a0Reykjavik University<\/a>, of which he is a graduate. \u00a0He was called on as an alumni to give a short speech, and apparently it went well (I was minding the kids at his parents’ place).<\/p>\n

The new building is by the Nauth\u00f3lsv\u00edk beach, where warm water is pumped into this little pool by the ocean so the kids can play there without freezing. I also believe they covered the beach with lightly colored sand.<\/p><\/div>\n

For contrast, here's an old barracks style building that's in the same area.<\/p><\/div>\n

The snow that fell on 3 November stayed for about a week, before getting rained away. \u00a0We took the kids out sledding a couple of times, and the little hill out back proved just about perfect. \u00a0It’s tall enough that the sled really slides down at a fair speed, but low enough that Bjarki had no trouble climbing back up while pulling his sled.<\/p>\n

We also went with Holla and her girls to see a Nordic Pagan Stories show. \u00a0It was pretty neat, and the kids had a good time.<\/p>\n

They had a little workshop where we could build our own wings, and Thor's hammer. Here we are getting directions on how to make (butterfly) wings.<\/p><\/div>\n
