[Photos taken 01-11 March 2021, posted online 16 July 2021. The adults have begun their summer vacations, but the teenagers have a bit to go before finishing up for the summer. Covid-19 is rearing its ugly head again, sounds like rules to enter the country are to be tightened, not sure about rules for life in general. We have 85% of 16+ year-olds fully vaccinated, and about 90% have gotten at least one shot. The 12-16 year-olds probably not vaccinated until late August.<\/em>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March began as always with my birthday (yay!), I went into the office for a whole week to do tests, and we began in earnest prepping for Bjarki’s upcoming confirmation on 21 March, as it was looking increasingly likely that we’d actually be able to go ahead with it on the originally scheduled date. Photo of the absolute worst reading book to come home for a long while. It’s decades old (this edition dates from 1970, it first came out in 1943), and is mostly a collection of super repetitive stories, where a protagonist goes around to different entities and recites the same things over and over and over again. This story in particular was especially bad, it was an old lady who couldn’t get her pig to cross a low barrier into a fence so that she could go home. Instead she went to eight different beings, asking them to inflict pain on the next in line. They all refused to help until The Rat broke the stalemate by asking for something and getting it. The story ends: The old lady gave the rat the cheese it requested, the rat began gnawing the stick, the stick began hitting the butcher, the butcher began butchering the bull, the bull began drinking the water, the water began putting out the fire, the fire began burning the plank, the plank began hitting the dog, the dog began biting the pig, the pig crossed into the fence and the old lady made it home. (‘Began’ is the only translation for ‘f\u00f3r’ which means ‘went’ as in ‘went to do x’ that makes sense as a dead bull won’t drink water!) (And yes, I just sent an email to the education-materials-department to please consider removing this book from their catalog.)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
