The last week of May was a flurry of more gardening activity. We returned to the office, went to the library, checked out the new puppy, and even went to a graduation party with lots of people (gasp!). Bringing covid numbers down is totally worth it! (50-ish images total)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday 23 May 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emma on her way to visit a friend in the bright sun.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I walked with her to her friend’s place, since she wasn’t quite sure of the route, and then I took the long way home. The weather was silly good.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Back in the yard, we prepped a pot for some summer flowers.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Finnur began constructing frames for lids.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Moving on to insulating the boxes from the mud.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Stapling the covering to the boxes. We only realized after the fact that we turned it inside-out, the taps are supposed to touch the wood, so water can freely run down the sides. Ooops!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
A few steps closer to having functioning veggie-boxes.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Also managed to plump down the summer flowers, some which did a lot better than others as the summer went along.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The blue pot which the pervious owner left, and has been floating around the yard collecting weeds these past nine years, finally got new earth and actual flowers.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
A few more newbie plants, to fill up holes in the shrubbery. Of them, only the top one should really survive until next year, but if we’re lucky three will.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"

\"\"

Summer-time!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The daffodils (p\u00e1skaliljur, or “Easter lilies” in Icelandic) came roaring up, and lasted well into June, as they came late enough to miss most of the spring-storms.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Always lovely.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
I also a little big of color to the corner lot, but they sort of never really grew any more than that. I think I’ll try something different there next year.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sunday 24 May 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think it rained that day, so Emma’s room became my task-de-jour. This was in the middle of installing new black-out curtains.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Aaaah, much better!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Next up was a trip downtown to the library, and cafe.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Then we went to grandma \u00c1sd\u00eds’s and Bjarni’s place to visit the new puppy, Spori. Sooo cute!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"

Aaaa, the magic of black-out curtains. This is at 10:30 at night.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Monday 25 May 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The kids walking to school at 8 am in the morning, on a gorgeous day.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
That was the day I went back into the office for the first time since March!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
There were still a bunch of limitations in effect. The cafeteria area was closed outside of eating hours, and every floor had a designated slot.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The office population and the production population were still being kept apart.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
My first task was to clean up my desk, which I had left back in March without realizing it would be weeks until I’d be returning, and it was all dusty.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Not my usual lunch of fried egg on toast, plus a peanut-butter-&-jelly toast.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The cafeteria was so happy to have people back in the house, they ordered an ice-cream dispensary, and one of the chefs sang and played guitar for us!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"

All the door closures at work meant that getting from A to B on the same floor often involved a lot of going up and down stairs.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

With the covid numbers being very low, our friends decided to celebrate their son’s graduation from junior college with an actual party. Their house is huge, so it was relatively easy to spread out.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dad’s speech was yet another instant classic.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
How fast they grow!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

That morning I WENT TO THE GYM!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

One very kind neighbor lent us their box trailer, so Finnur could go fetch earth.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Veggie boxes getting filled.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It took a few trips, but it was pretty smooth sailing. We still had some leftover earth when they were full, which got deposited at the top of the lot.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
