[Photos taken 12 – 31 August 2019, posted online 03 April 2020. The snow is finally mostly gone. Covid-19 is so not gone, with 1364 confirmed cases in Iceland.<\/em>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life plodded along, as we tried to readjust to “regular life” again. We attended a birthday party, and met up with friends, Bjarki took a tumble but escaped surprisingly intact, I kept going to the gym, Anna kept being an ambitious baker, school started up again, and my workplace hosted both a Family Day, and a Hackathon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather was lovely for the most part, and trying to get the kids inside in the evenings continued to be a challenge. But we all survived. (50-ish images total)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday 12 August 2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emma’s snacks, as she began attending the “after school” program, which began a week before the actual school began, and lasted the whole day. The city runs the after-school program inside the school, and they’ve found that getting the 1st graders into the program a week before school starts lessens the drama of them starting school.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Two points: 1) There are now quite a few charging stations by my work-place, and 2) Our facilities managers have flags for all occasions, and use them diligently.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday 14 August 2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is poor Bjarki resting in the ER, after taking an nasty tumble on his bike, as he was attempting a stunt jump off of a pile of sand in front of our house. Happily he was wearing a helmet (which had a crack in the back), but he got hit on the stomach (hence the rapid entry into the ER), and his elbow got a nasty bruise, which needed an x-ray.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A weirdly familiar sight.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As he warmed up, and the initial shock wore off, he starting feeling better. When he started cracking jokes on the way to the x-ray, I became pretty sure no bones were broken, and thankfully that turned out to be true. Lucky guy!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

There is a distinct lack of storage space where I work, so a bunch of stainless steel constructions get stored outside. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Later that day we went to celebrate Finnur’s dad’s birthday. It’s pretty incredible, but the weather on 17 August tends to always be gorgeous.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As school started up again, Anna made pretzels from scratch! They were delicious!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Saturday 24 August 2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On my way to the gym on this lovely Saturday morning, I got stuck for quite a while at a crosswalk, as participants in the Reykjavik Marathon ran past. The crosswalk attendant was so bad at using the gap in runners to let cars pass that eventually a police officer, who had been waiting for quite a while, exited his car and gave the attendant a small lesson in traffic control. I was set free soon thereafter.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The runners just kept running. So many runners!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Apparently we made it to Ikea, where got a new “inside the closet” shelving unit. Anna assembled it herself!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The highlight of the day was a visit to Ragnar and Agnes. They have a trampoline!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"

One of the high-points was a demo by Villi the Science Guy (he’s actually an entertainer by trade, but he’s into science big time)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Among other things, he created this amazing smoke-ring-cannon on the spot, so to speak. (All you need is a plastic garbage bin, with a hole in the bottom, a plastic cover taped on, and a, ahemm, smoke machine.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"

Emma also attended gymnastics practice, which were held (until Covid-19 struck) twice per week for an hour. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The status on the relatively newly installed fake-turf field at 8:30 in the evening, as I tried to coax Bjarki home, as it was a school night.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why did I take a selfie in front of Marel at 16:47? I have no idea. But it was day one of the Marel hackathon.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

On day two of the Marel Hackathon ended with project demonstrations. Villi the Science Guy\/Nail Biter was on hand to be an announcer, and entertain.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We then took buses downtown to a faaaancy club at the top of a building that faces the parliament building.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
