[Photos taken on 19-28 June 2018, posted on 30 December 2018.\u00a0 I’m liking this long holiday.<\/em>] <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Iceland qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup <\/a>(of men’s soccer) held in Russia, Finnur was on the fence about going, but in the end he applied for tickets, and got tickets to two games: Iceland-Nigeria in Volgograd<\/a>, and Iceland-Croatia in Rostov<\/a>. Since we are all about sensible traveling, he flew via Sweden, staying overnight both ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While he was away, I held down the fort with Anna’s help, and even made it to the summer house. On the day Finnur returned, Bjarki turned 11 years old!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are lots of photos here from Finnur, but I don’t really know the story behind them. (150-ish photos total. How did that happen?!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, game day arrived. The daycare-boss kindly asked if parents could pick their kids up early, and by 3 pm, all the kids were gone.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This gave the late-departing teachers a chance to watch the game uninterrupted.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In Russia, Finnur made his way to the game zone.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He got his face painted, which ended up causing major headaches when he went through security, as he didn’t look like his photo. It worked out ok in the end, but he’s never going to paint his whole face before a high-security game!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In Iceland, I discovered I had about 80 midge bites on my body from the summer house stay. Gaaah!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Me and the kids went to a birthday party, which was also a soccer viewing party as it was time for Iceland’s third, and final, game in this World Cup.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating the fact that Finnur was coming home, I took the kids to a sushi-train restaurant.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It was Emma’s first time and she loved it!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Sadly, Emma loved her food too much, eating too much, and uh, relieving her stomach into a bag in the car as we got stuck in traffic while a couple of cranes did crane-y things up ahead. Terrible timing! There is never traffic there!!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In Russia, however, Finnur went to the airport in Rostov, and…<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

… said goodbye to Russia from Moscow!<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This time, his hotel was by the Stockholm airport. He went on a walk, and found this plane which is a hotel as well?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
