[Photos taken on 11-12 March, posted on 06 October 2018.\u00a0 First real low pressure area of the autumn crossing over our heads with loud winds and sprinkles of snow.<\/em>]<\/p>\n

My plane to Iceland left late in the afternoon, so I had the entire morning to wander around Vancouver.\u00a0 I finally managed to visit the observation tower, and also walked around “Gastown”. (56 images total)<\/p>\n

Sunday 11 March 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spooling back to the start of the day.\u00a0 Early morning breakfast, courtesy of the dinner place I’d gone to the night before!<\/p><\/div>\n

I was perplexed by this arrangement of doors at the hotel. I sort of looks like you can rent three rooms at the same time, and only carry around one key?<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Breakfast was at the hotel restaurant. I’d found some interesting breakfast places on TripAdvisor, but many of the reviews described long morning lines on the weekend, so I decided to lay low.<\/p><\/div>\n

Taking photos of tall buildings with tiny cameras makes for sea-sicknessy images.<\/p><\/div>\n

It was a gorgeous day. This is at 10 in the morning.<\/p><\/div>\n

The other direction is a lot less interesting. I wish cities had nicer alleys.<\/p><\/div>\n

By the observation tower. Those two vertical lines in the middle are where the lifts go up and down.<\/p><\/div>\n

I got a ticket.<\/p><\/div>\n

The weather was perfect for being up there. I didn’t want to trouble the guide that was up there, but did end up listening in on her when more people came up. Sounded like this whole town was built by lumberjacks and miners?<\/p><\/div>\n

Looking east-ish. The streets that run along the train-tracks are referred to as Gastown.<\/p><\/div>\n

Some of the buildings here had a lot of interesting history tied to them.<\/p><\/div>\n

Back down on the ground, things were less fancy. This is right next to those train tracks.<\/p><\/div>\n

As I walked into Gastown, I came up on a crow of people next to this smoking clock.<\/p><\/div>\n

As the clock struck 11 am, it played a song, and the cameras went wild!<\/p><\/div>\n

It was fairly early morning, but there were still people milling about.<\/p><\/div>\n

At 13:30, on the train to the airport.<\/p><\/div>\n

A plane!<\/p><\/div>\n

Expertly packed! (23 kg is max)<\/p><\/div>\n

The airport was friendly.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I was a little (lot!) sad to discover that the trees were made of plastic.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Impressive!<\/p><\/div>\n

The Icelandair plane, Hekla Aurora, with fake Northern lights inside.<\/p><\/div>\n

4 pm take-off, goodbye Vancouver.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Oh dear, the plane is leaking… Went away pretty quickly.<\/p><\/div>\n

The views from the window were beautiful.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

People live down there.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Mountains everywhere.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Iceflows?<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

No crashing… No crashing…<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

It took about 15-20 minutes to clear the mountains and then it was just plain plains forever.<\/p><\/div>\n

Many hours later I landed in Iceland, and did NOT take a single photo at the airport.\u00a0 But I know I landed, and I made it home in one piece.\u00a0 Thus endeth the third worktrip to Canada this winter.<\/p>\n
