Leaving the UK without Finnur was less successful life-wise (for me) than joining him in the UK, and then all of us traveling back to Iceland together.\u00a0 Also, the weather didn’t help.\u00a0 But, you live, you learn. (28 images total)<\/p>\n

At work I stumbled upon this fabulous indoor rain-cover, as the February low pressure areas kept pounding the not-quite-waterproof building with rain and wind.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

Finnur sent us this gorgeous snap from the top of the London Google building.<\/p><\/div>\n

Back home Bjarki proudly showed me art by Anna.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Emma also got decorated.<\/p><\/div>\n

Friday 23 February 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

The view from my parking lot when I came home. There had been a LOT of rain, and melt due to warm weather.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I managed to locate and break through the ice to the drain, but it kept clogging with icy sludge. Happily, while I was shuttling Bjarki to gym practice, one of our neighbors was clever enough to remove the drain cover, so water could flow freely down.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

A little while later I went out again and found the second drain. Playing with ice and water is fun!<\/p><\/div>\n

Inside, Anna took it upon herself to reorganize one of our cabinets which had evolved into chaos.<\/p><\/div>\n

So. Much. Better!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Leftovers for dinner. I sure like to cook pre-cut up food!<\/p><\/div>\n

Saturday 24 February 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Us girls ended up at the bakery after Emma’s sports school.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Summary: Not healthy.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Emma spent the afternoon with her grandparents while I tried to recharge my very depleted batteries. Bjarki was probably staying with a friend?<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

In classic Icelandic fashion, a hailstorm broke out as I was about to enter the grocery store.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

The weather in England was quite e bit nicer…<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

At home, I finally figure out the source of the mysterious oil that we’d started noticing on milk cartons. Never store these things on their side!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

On closer inspection the oil had made it everywhere, so a whole scale cleaning job was needed. I was not quite in the mood for it though…<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Foodstuffs waiting to be let back inside the cold.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Ahhh, much better! (The missing door shelf needed to go into the dishwasher, there was no way to clean it by hand.)<\/p><\/div>\n

Sunday 25 February 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

The thaw continued, and so did the rain. I managed to convince Emma to go out for a bit with her friend.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Playing with water is always fun!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Helping the water down the drain.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Meanwhile, Finnur was making his way home…<\/p><\/div>\n

As Finnur arrived home, I went out to seek someplace where nobody was going to shout MOM at me. There were also puddles there!<\/p><\/div>\n

Alive still!<\/p><\/div>\n

A few days later, our street was both free of ice and water!<\/p><\/div>\n

Emma insisted on going to daycare, where she happened to find other kids on scooters!<\/p><\/div>\n
