In late November I went on the first of what would be three work-trips in a short span of time to a certain facility in Canada , where we were running experiments.\u00a0 Thankfully, for the first trip, there was still a direct flight to Edmonton, but I would not be so lucky with the next two trips.\u00a0 Oh well.\u00a0 It meant I got to visit Vancouver and Toronto, albeit briefly. Sunday 26 November 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yours truly sitting by the departure “gate”. The airport is now under so much construction that we ended up walking up through some maintenance stairwell to get to the actual gate!<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Katla was my plane.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Happy to not be hauling baggage out in the cold.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Approaching Edmonton some six hours later.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I need to go investigate the city itself at some point. The work days always end up being so long that we just work, eat, and sleep, repeat…<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

We were not particularly pleased when it turned out that our rental car was not at the airport, but waaaay offsite. We had to call a number, a guy told us he’d be at the airport in 20 minutes to pick us up, and then we drove to some random industrial area south of the airport to pick up the car. After a 6 hour flight, we were not happy campers.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Yes, this is what was next to the car rental place.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Finally, we arrived at the hotel, a lot later than we’d anticipated.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

My room. I ended up having to build a pillow wall between the air-conditioning unit by the window, and my feet, as it kept “refreshing the air” all through the night, which mostly involved blowing cold air up on to the bed!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Meanwhile, in Iceland, Bjarki read a book.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tuesday 28 November 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I found myself in Walmart, of all places. Why do I always forget to pack a network cable?!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I was tasked with buying duct tape, and had the hardest time choosing WHICH ONE?! The DUCK tape didn’t help matters at all…!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Our big hunk of a vehicle was a pretty standard size for this area.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Back at the hotel, this was the view from my window at 7 pm.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I think this was the trip where Every. Single. Dinner. was had at the Boston Pizza across from the hotel.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

By the end of the stay I was mentally scarred.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Meanwhile, in Iceland, daycare had a waffle day.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

… and Finnur made dinner! (… as he usually does)<\/p><\/div>\n

Wednesday 29 November 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the bowl: Smoked pig ears, only $3 a piece!<\/p><\/div>\n

Thursday 30 November 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think we’d decided to show up rather late that morning, but I still woke up super early, so I went and swam for a bit.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

The athletic center is about as far from Boston Pizza as Boston Pizza is away from our hotel.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

8 am sunrise.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

At 08:19, from my hotel room.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I spent a lot of time cooped over my computer during that trip.\u00a0 This was also the trip where I caved in and just started drinking black coffee.<\/p><\/div>\n

Friday 01 December 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

In my work-outfit, minus my black fleece.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Hotel carpets are something else!<\/p><\/div>\n

It started getting colder… -8 C at that point.<\/p><\/div>\n

Meanwhile at home, Anna was doing a funny dance.<\/p><\/div>\n

Sunday 03 December 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

Emma the artist.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

For the first time ever, we decided to hire somebody to clean, except the house wasn’t cleanable. So Finnur tidied all the random stuff.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

\"\"<\/a>

I was duly impressed!<\/p><\/div>\n

Monday 04 December 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

My departure day arrived, although my two colleagues would stay longer. I took a taxi to the airport.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Glad that wasn’t my plane.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Fancy tower building at Edmonton airport.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

A joyous sight for sore eyes!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

The airport was not busy, which was nice.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tuesday 05 December 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six hours of flying later: Home sweet home!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

I slept until 1 pm, and then took Anna out to a coffee house in Hafnarfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. This is taken at 16:10 (4:10 pm).<\/p><\/div>\n

Then I went to pick Emma up from daycare. They’d had a christmas costume party!<\/p><\/div>\n
