August brought with it birthday parties, the start of the school year, lovely calm weather, walks, and football (soccer)! Life went on, and started settling down into the schedule that would extend through the winter. (55 images total)<\/p>\n

Sunday 20 August 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

The weather played nice, while Anna and I played Pokemon Go… Some raid or other brought us to a church in Gar\u00f0ab\u00e6r!\u00a0 Then we had to wait for others to arrive.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Later that day we went to a birthday party. Bjarki was in serious need of food!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Hildur blowing out her candle.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

Arnar blowing out his candle. Their birthdays are a week apart.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

The crowd cheers and then the eating began!<\/p><\/div>\n

That evening I kept going through the pile of old stuff. Found this school project by Anna, about Astrid Lindgren and Pippy.\u00a0 I found it adorable enough to photograph all of it.\u00a0 \u00a0This was made during her first year in Iceland.<\/p><\/div>\n

By 9:30 pm I’d driven to a nearby lake, for a walk.<\/p><\/div>\n

I remember limping quite unhappily that evening, due to my very swollen left Achilles tendon.<\/p><\/div>\n

Cars whizz by this lake at all hours of the day.<\/p><\/div>\n

Oh, and Finnur attempted to buy toilet paper at CostCo that day, but it was sold out!<\/p><\/div>\n

We finally remembered to check the strawberry plants, and found one that was mostly ready!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

August evenings are the best. The kids can stay out until 10 pm and play. Doesn’t happen every night, but once in a while for sure.<\/p><\/div>\n

The real news on this photo is the H&M sign behind Emma. Yup, H&M finally arrived in Iceland (after many years away) this past fall.<\/p><\/div>\n

The sign-in-and-out screen at my job. If you forget the little metallic thing to id you, you’re left with taking a photo of the thing to remember when you showed up. Ancient time registration tech at Marel is a recurring inside joke.<\/p><\/div>\n

A quick visit to a computer store confirmed that laptops cost twice as much in Iceland as in the US. Thus I decided to wait until Finnur’s next US visit to upgrade.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>

This was also the time where ads with my brother’s face were EVERYWHERE. EVERYWHERE!!!<\/p><\/div>\n

One of the nice features in the new space at work is a “library room”, with a nice chair and footstool. As I’ve participated in choosing a buying a few of the books, finally, my life long ambition to be a librarian has come to pass (a bit).<\/p><\/div>\n
