{"id":14815,"date":"2016-01-15T16:13:36","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T16:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/?p=14815"},"modified":"2016-01-15T16:24:43","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T16:24:43","slug":"broken-foot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/broken-foot\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken Foot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[<em>Written on Friday 15 January 2016, accident happened on Monday 11 January 2016. \u00a0Ouch!<\/em>]<\/p>\n<p>I (Hrefna) fell as I was walking towards the entrance to my workplace this Monday morning. \u00a0I slipped on some newly snow-covered ice, but as I was about to land, my heel slid off the ice onto the hard surface, so my lower foot stopped moving, while the rest of me fell like gravity intended. \u00a0As a result, I dislocating my right ankle, and broke\u00a0multiple\u00a0bones around it.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people were arriving for work at that time, so help arrived immediately as I screamed, and a coworker called an ambulance. \u00a0It arrived 5-7 minutes later (although I have no idea, I was in <em>a lot<\/em> of pain), and I&#8217;m very thankful for the many coworkers who stayed by me, talked to me, held my hand, gave me support, and brought a blanket out to the parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>In the ambulance, they managed to drug me enough that I don&#8217;t recall them popping the foot back, but I came to as we arrived at the hospital. \u00a0Once there I got more meds, and got put in a temporary cast, so they could take x-ray images. \u00a0Once those had been analyzed, I was drugged again, and a doctor realigned the foot (both upper pipes were broken), and another temporary cast was put in place. \u00a0This one felt &#8220;right&#8221; and the worst of the pain went away. \u00a0Still, to be sure, they took a second (smaller) set of x-rays.<\/p>\n<p>I got transferred up from the ER to orthopedics, where I waited out the day. \u00a0The day really went by fast, and shortly before 4 pm I was rolled into surgery. \u00a0There a plate was installed, and some 9 screws. \u00a0The plate will probably never be removed, but the screws might come out after a year has passed. \u00a0There is one special screw though, which will be removed after 10 weeks, after which I will be allowed to put some weight on the foot again.<\/p>\n<p>Since it was a open fracture, I had to stay in the hospital for two days, getting intravenous antibiotics. \u00a0Oh, and the good painkillers, which they don&#8217;t give you at home! \u00a0But yes, I&#8217;m home now, slowly getting better.<\/p>\n<p>This is me today (11 images total)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14816\" style=\"width: 499px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14816\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14816\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_20160115_142812.jpg\" alt=\"What a lovely sight!\" width=\"489\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_20160115_142812.jpg 489w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_20160115_142812-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_20160115_142812-450x607.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">What a lovely sight!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is the first day I&#8217;ve had the mental stamina to open a laptop since the accident. \u00a0I guess that means I&#8217;m getting better?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, some photos. \u00a0Be warned that there is some <strong>BLOOD two images down<\/strong>!!!! <!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Monday 11 January 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14818\" style=\"width: 499px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14818\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14818\" src=\"https:\/\/hrefna.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_20160111_130514.jpg\" alt=\"Barely controlled chaos in the ER.
