We followed our hosts to the town of Lewes in Delaware<\/a>, about three hours away by car. (33 images total)<\/p>\n

Our trip to the beach, which took about three hours with stops.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

The drive to the beach was pretty generic, but this bridge was impressive: The Chesapeake Bay Bridge<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n

It’s a weird crossing, because at some point a second bridge was built next to the original bridge, but they’re not identical.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"We<\/a>

We arrived at the house our hosts had on loan from a relative at noon, ate lunch, and then went straight to the beach! (Observant\u00a0people may notice the shadows being rather long in this image. That’s because I took this photo at the end of the day, and not when we arrived at lunchtime, because I was carrying a ton of stuff. \u00a0Live with it.)<\/p><\/div>\n

We found a spot to drop our stuff, and made ourselves comfortable.<\/p><\/div>\n

Bjarki was really apprehensive about the sea, but his courage grew as time wore on.<\/p><\/div>\n

At five pm a curious thing happened. \u00a0The lifeguards ordered everybody out of the ocean, and then left. \u00a0Apparently they have to let everyone know their work-hours are over, after which people are on their own. \u00a0We decided to call it a day soon thereafter.<\/p><\/div>\n

To avoid the parking lot traffic jam which everybody leaving, we stopped to buy ice cream.<\/p><\/div>\n

The strawberry sorbet left Anna with crazy red lips!<\/p><\/div>\n

After some deliberations, we ended up going to a “hibachi-style<\/a>” restaurant (Tokyo Steakhouse<\/a>), where a chef cooks them meal at the table you’re sitting at.<\/p><\/div>\n

After some waiting, our chef finally arrived. He turned out the be the same guy we’d seen cook for a couple of tables already, and he was getting a little tired. But he did put on an impressive show!<\/p><\/div>\n

He performed lots of cool tricks in between actually cooking food for us. It was pretty neat!<\/p><\/div>\n

We ate, and all were happy. Well, except the tired kids, so we went straight to home base to put everyone to bed!<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
