[This happened on 29 July 2015, but is being blogged on 10 September 2015. \u00a0No wind!<\/em>]<\/p>\n

In late May I got a fly in my head (Icelandic idiom) to go visit and stay with our friends Elsa and \u00der\u00e1inn in Washington DC during our summer vacation.<\/p>\n

Long story short, a plan was hatched, tickets were bought, and on Finnur’s 41st birthday, we took off for a two week vacation! (16 images total)<\/p>\n

\"You<\/a>

You can tell by the cart\/stroller that we’re at Keflavik airport! Yes, we decided to buy proper headphones for all but one unlucky soul. They were worth it!<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

\"Emma<\/a>

Emma on a counter, while her tired mom orders a mocha. \u00a0True to form, the adults had\u00a0gone to bed at 1 or 2 am, but thankfully, we didn’t have to leave for the airport until shortly after 7 am. \u00a0I really like the 10:30 am departure\u00a0time!<\/p><\/div>\n

Eating a scrumptious Joe and the Juice<\/a> sandwich. They’re surprisingly good, and dangerously addictive!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Siblings!\"<\/a>

\"Unlucky<\/a>

Unlucky me (Hrefna) got picked to be randomly super-screened. I guess SSSS stands for Super-Secret-Superior-Screening or something. It meant that as we’d cleared passport control to leave the country, I was diverted to a line, where a lady donned gloves and stroked all of me, before stroking the insides of my bag. The gloves were then tested for traces of evil chemicals, of which I had none.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Yay,<\/a>

Yay, our airplane!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"We<\/a>

We were one of the last people to board, thanks to the SSSS.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Finnur's<\/a>

Finnur’s birthday present was to not have to sit next to Emma for six hours straight. She. Did. Not. Nap. Thank goodness for the seat-back entertainment system!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Goodbye<\/a>

Goodbye Iceland, for now!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"We<\/a>

We landed at Dulles shortly after lunch, local time. Our first stop was this funky huge bus, which elevated itself to attach to building entrances. \u00a0Happily, we had to wait a very long time for our luggage to arrive, which meant that I had time to download GPS guidance maps for my phone on the free WiFi. \u00a0We would have been very lost otherwise!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Before<\/a>

Before we knew it, we were through, and had picked up our rental car. By the way, never shop with Thrifty\/Dollar, because they charge for an additional driver even if that driver is your spouse. Now I know. \u00a0Of course, our first order of business was to go shopping at WHOLE FOODS! Oh, Whole Foods, we miss you so badly!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Picking<\/a>

Picking out a birthday cake for Finnur, whose birthday it still was!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Back<\/a>

Back at Elsa and \u00der\u00e1inn’s, things settled in pretty quickly.<\/p><\/div>\n

The piano was very popular.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Bjarki<\/a>

Bjarki trying to hide that he’s enjoying himself.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"And<\/a>

And with that, it was time for dinner (pesto pasta with bbq-ed sausages). \u00a0\u00der\u00e1inn was away on a business trip, and would be joining us two days later.<\/p><\/div>\n
