The company I’m working for, Marel<\/a>, is one of the largest in Iceland. \u00a0They like projecting a “we’re a responsible company”-vibe, so they’ve taken to sponsoring an SOS children’s\u00a0village in Africa<\/a> via an annual fundraiser, called Tour de Marel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year the goal was to walk\/run from Iceland to the village in question, for a total of 6500 km in 24 hours. \u00a0Employees were encouraged to go a 5 km route during the day, and then a bunch of running groups showed up the following (Saturday)\u00a0morning and finished the total off. An old hospital building, called V\u00edfilssta\u00f0ir<\/a>. I spent time there as a kid with a bad case of psoriasis.<\/p><\/div>\n

After work, there was a family event, with entertainers, and play equipment.<\/p><\/div>\n

The kids also got to run, this time around the building.<\/p><\/div>\n

It was great to get to bring the kids to work because it made it more real for them where I spend my days, and also because Marel has this awesome production facility that they got to tour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
