Christmas Day arose with copious amounts of pretty snow. \u00a0The kids were up and at it early as usual, but we waited until we’d all had breakfast to open Anna’s presents. (26 images total)<\/p>\n

Anna’s carrot cake that she decorated herself! Being 11 brings perks!<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

A wished-for DVD…<\/p><\/div>\n

She also got a book of perilous math, and a digital recorder\/radio so she can record her own favorite music and listen to it, kind of like we did with cassettes in the olden days.<\/p><\/div>\n

Emma being a jumping bean while Anna and I figure out the recorder.<\/p><\/div>\n

Pulling big sister’s hair is the best!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Shortly<\/a>

Shortly afterwards, we went to Finnur’s parents’ place for the annual Christmas Day meal, social whist tournament, and Anna’s birthday celebration.<\/p><\/div>\n

The view out the window. A bunch of Christmassy snow fell as the day wore on.<\/p><\/div>\n

Whist tournament in full swing. We played on four tables this year, instead of the customary three. Anna is now a fully incorporated whist player.<\/p><\/div>\n

These young men haven’t quite reached whist-age, so they got to gobble up tv things instead.<\/p><\/div>\n

Finnur and Margr\u00e9t waiting between rounds.<\/p><\/div>\n

Emma kept crawling into my lap, and committing art on my scorecard. Good times!<\/p><\/div>\n

The rounds kept coming, 12 total!<\/p><\/div>\n

After the tournament it was time to light the candles on Anna’s cake.<\/p><\/div>\n

Anna enduring the ritual humiliation of being sung to. (And of course, this is where my camera because super flaky because the flash ran out of batteries. Sigh.)<\/p><\/div>\n

Super-speedy Anna finished off the candles in record time!<\/p><\/div>\n

Bjarki shielding his eyes from the injustice of it not being his birthday.<\/p><\/div>\n

Omnomnom. Steinunn’s due in late March of next year.<\/p><\/div>\n

For, I think, the first time ever, there was a three-way tie for the whist title.<\/p><\/div>\n

The three champions drew cards to see who would take home the winner’s cup, and…<\/p><\/div>\n
