[Written 23 May 2014<\/em>]<\/p>\n

This past weekend, we drove a little over two hours to a small farm\/guesthouse<\/a> called Steig<\/a> in the south of Iceland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We were there to meet up with descendants of three brothers, enjoy each other’s company, enjoy the view, enjoy good food, enjoy the animals, and yeah, just enjoy life. \u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the brothers was a farmer at Steig, and both Finnur and his dad spent time there working in their youth. \u00a0The family still owns the farm, to which they’ve added a 16 room guesthouse.<\/p>\n

The weather kept improving throughout the weekend. \u00a0We drove there in intermittent pouring<\/em> rain on Friday, Saturday saw lots of drizzle, and Sunday was gorgeous.<\/p>\n

Friday 16 May 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

We left pretty late in the day, so we stopped in Selfoss (45 min drive) for dinner.<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n

We stopped at a Thai place called Menam<\/a>, which also offers more “traditional” food. Of course, the Thai food turned out to be a lot better than the other stuff, so now we know to avoid that.<\/p><\/div>\n

We arrived at the restaurant right at 7 pm, when they were at their busiest, so it took us a while to set out again. \u00a0We didn’t arrive at Steig until 10 pm, and went straight to bed.<\/p>\n

Saturday 17 May 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

The day began with us exiling the older kids from our room so that Emma could nap. Tablets are amazingly fantastic babysitters.<\/p><\/div>\n

The view from the guesthouse. These buildings house sheep, machines, tools, a couple of rabbits, geese, hens, and a few humans.<\/p><\/div>\n

The guesthouse. They have 16 very nice rooms. \u00a0We got the largest room, with four beds, a travel cot for Emma, and a huge bathroom.<\/p><\/div>\n

A handful of lambs were born while we were there. The ones on the outside of the fence were less than an hour old.<\/p><\/div>\n

Shortly after lunch, everybody else started arriving. (We were the only ones to arrive the night before.) \u00a0Here Finnur is with his parents and Emma.<\/p><\/div>\n

Everybody heading out to check out the farm, and then walking up a nearby hill. I stayed behind and napped with Emma. My heel wasn’t up to hiking anyway.<\/p><\/div>\n
