Yet again, our busy weekend schedule meant that my only opening for a FFF<\/a> outing was from 11 am on a Sunday morning, to about 2 pm.<\/p>\n

I was feeling ‘sporty’ so I was initially just going to go shoot arrows at paper targets, but discovered just in time that the Archery Range<\/a> opens at noon.<\/p>\n

To pad out the outing, I therefore decided to visit Ger\u00f0arsafn<\/a> (Museum of Ger\u00f0ur<\/a>) first, where they were showing<\/a> the Icelandic Photojournalism Association’s Pictures of the Year<\/a>. \u00a0(Ironically, I decided not to bring my ‘big’ camera, all the following images are from my phone.)<\/p>\n

The photo show was pretty much as expected, except that I learned that almost all Icelandic Photojournalists are male. \u00a0And it showed. (11 images total)<\/p>\n

This here is the official Picture of the Year. It’s a foreigner that got lost in Iceland for two days after she was found. Behind her is a mostly red image of the PR person for Vodafone (telecom) standing under a poster saying “Trust”, after somebody hacked their website and let loose thousands of unencrypted email and password combinations (mine included).<\/p><\/div>\n

I took a bunch of videos so, but can’t really be bothered to post them. So have a short gif instead!<\/p><\/div>\n

\"More<\/a>

More portraits. The portraits section was particularly galling viewed from a gender-perspective. I counted 20 male vs. 5 female photos (one mixed). \u00a0Just this wall had 7 vs. 2. Of those, one women was ‘vamping’ for the camera. The best female portraits were taken by women, the vamp was photographed by a guy. The male subjects were all portrayed as strong, cool, thoughtful, or important looking. I left the show feeling rather despondent.<\/p><\/div>\n

\"Downstairs<\/a>

Downstairs were images from the Westman Islands<\/a>. Most were related to fishing, although a few (seen here) were dedicated to the volcanic eruption in 1973 that almost destroyed the whole dwelling.<\/p><\/div>\n

At the nearby Cafe Dix, I got the seafood soup which was ok. The hot chocolate was excellent as always though. By the time I’d finished, Holla had joined me for the third and final part of the outing.<\/p><\/div>\n

This was Holla’s first time, but she caught on quickly.<\/p><\/div>\n

This was my third time (second sans children) and I still suck! I could only ever manage to put three out of five arrows into the yellow circle. I may be too impatient for this sport!<\/p><\/div>\n
