This should have been the first ‘studio’ post since this was the first photo shoot of the ‘season’, taking place on 30 November. But time is relative, so meh.
The plan was to shoot our own Christmas card photo, and figure out the living room “studio” set up, since we hadn’t ever taken photos in there. And with my brothers, spouses, and their kids showing up the next day, it was sort of important to try and figure stuff out.
As it happened, we just barely managed to get set up an hour before we needed to drop Finnur off at the bus-stop, where he would board a bus to the airport and then fly to California.
Not surprisingly, tensions were high, so we didn’t get a whole lot of usable photos. The Christmas Card one has already been posted, but here are a few more, just for kicks: (4 images total)
On both 10 and 11 December, my cousin Ríkey (our grandparents were siblings) and her two kids came by our house after work .
We meant to take Christmas card photo on the first day, but I foolishly decided to make us lasagne for dinner, not realizing that lasagne takes over an hour of hard work to make, and so we ran out of time.
The next day I was more cunning with my dinner choice (oven baked cod and sweet potatoes) so we had time to take some photos.
Ríkey actually owns a proper ‘home studio’ set up, with two crazy powerful lights in fancy softboxes, buuuuut I didn’t know how to sync them properly to my camera which refused to acknowledge their presence, even though I got the lights to fire simultaneously.
So I reverted back to my simple two-flash, one-umbrella setup. Sigh. (She left the home studio box here though, and it’s on my to-do list to get it figured out!)
Anyway, on to some photos! 🙂 (11 images total)
On 8 December I visited Adda and Halli, and brought with my my trusty, yet meager, photo-gear (Canon 40d, 70-200mm lens, two flashes, one umbrella).
Halli and I then took a bunch of photos of the kids, to use for their Christmas card this year.
Here are some of the photos I took: (8 images total)
On 1 December 2013, my Icelandic brothers (and spouses) visited us with all their kids in tow. I proceeded to take about 500 photos of them (and us) in our living room, using my two flashes, and one photo umbrella. The purpose was to make a photobook of my mom’s kids and grandchildren to giveRead more

This Christmas Day, our not-so-little-at-all-anymore Anna turned 10 years old. (40 images total)
Anna Sólrún turned TEN YEARS OLD today!! As usual we went to Finnur’s parents for their big Christmas Day feast/whist playing, and ended by singing for Anna as she blew out her candles (for the third time this birthday season). I don’t have the energy to put all the images up online yet, so hereRead more

This Christmas Eve, we were invited to Finnur’s parents’ house for dinner, and opening presents.
First though we had to survive the day itself, which we did by letting the kids watch TV all day. 🙂 (43 images total)

Paradoxically, our Day-Before-Christmas is really 23 December, because our Christmas is on Christmas Eve. I guess somebody got the translation wrong? (10 images total)
