More Northern Lights, Now With an Animated Image!

[Photos taken between 00:01 and 00:20 on 03 January 2015. Blogged shortly thereafter. As in, within the hour!]

Aurora photos started popping up on Facebook, so I decided to check conditions, and found a clear sky, and active lights bouncing here and there. Stayed out for about 20 minutes, or until my fingers were about to fall off. Gloves? Who needs gloves where there are green lights in the sky?!?! (5 images total)

I saw a post on Facebook earlier tonight that there were northern lights out. Since the tripod was on hand, I decided to go outside and try taking my first photos of the lights in the sky.

Sadly, it was rather cloudy over our part of town, but I still got a few shots, before the lights moved on. (3 images total)

Unexpected Sliding

[This happened earlier tonight, on 28 December 2014. Try not to faint.]

We attended a dinner party earlier this evening. When we left the party, we found, much to our surprise, that our car had slid, yes, SLID, almost all the way onto an adjacent car.

Yes, we’d parked it on a slight sideways incline, sans studded tires, on top of a thick sheet of bumpy ice. Little did we suspect that the wind and ice and gravity would conspire to push the car until it hit actual ground, which thankfully coincided with the side-mirror all but touching (maybe touching?) the other car.

Our hosts helped us track the owner of the other car down, and he successfully managed to back his car out of the tight spot, veeeeery sloooooowly, without incident. Phew! (4 images total)

Kids Outside in Snow

The big kids have been overdosing on computer time over the holidays, so every now and then we make them go outside, often much to their consternation. Just to be super evil we make them take Emma out too, but she usually only lasts for some 10 minutes (or until her hands get cold or she looses her footing).

Anna Turns 11 Years Old and The Christmas Day Party

Christmas Day arose with copious amounts of pretty snow. The kids were up and at it early as usual, but we waited until we’d all had breakfast to open Anna’s presents. (26 images total)

Christmas finally arrived!! And not a moment to soon according to our brood. They survived the day pretty well, it’s awesome being able to send them (read: Bjarki) out to play with friends where they are less likely to have meltdowns. Because. Presents!! (16 images total)
