Around 5 pm today, Anna called come in tears after tumbling off her bike by the local swimming pool. Since Finnur had the car, I biked to her and found her sitting on the sidewalk, being looked after by a mom who’d seen her tumble and lent her her phone.
As I arrived I thought her arm looked like it could be broken, but Anna claimed to be able to move the arm fine, and then did so without wincing much at all, so I figured it was just a really really nasty bruise. So Anna rallied and then rolled/biked her way back home on her bike. Thankfully the way home is all either level or downhill.
When we arrived home, we checked in with one of our neighbors, who happens to be a nurse (one of three that we know of in the street!). She had Anna try to move her arm in a certain way (twist it) which Anna couldn’t do on her own. The consensus was to go to the ER to have her properly checked out.
We arrived at the ER at 17:45 about an hour after the initial tumble. We got super lucky because the waiting room was essentially deserted and didn’t have to wait more than 5-10 minutes before the triage nurse could see Anna.

Just breaking up the monotony of ‘old news’ by posting today’s events: 0) Made snacks for Anna and got her out the door in time for her daytime-camp. Our first full day (and my only full day) in Munchen (Munich) was spent eating at different restaurants, napping, and walking around downtown.
We ambled out of the hotel shortly before lunchtime, and ended up at the restaurant Opatija around the corner from our hotel, after discovering that it had a pretty good TripAdvisor profile. We both opted for fish this time, and the food was not bad at all! 🙂

The morning after Bjarki’s birthday party – part two, Finnur and I set out for Munchen (Munich to the English) – just the two of us! It so happened that Finnur had been summoned there on a worktrip that was to last an entire week, so I tagged along with him for the first weekend.

We celebrated Bjarki’s fifth birthday with friends and family during a sunny, yet somewhat windy afternoon. Not everybody could make it due to various summer-travel-plans, but we had a good number of people over, and Bjarki was soooo happy to get more presents.
Poor Bjarki looking a bit exhausted after spending all day waiting for the guests to arrive. I did bribe the kids into tidying up the upstairs with precious computer time (aka cartoon time) so that helped. 🙂 (Pétur and Fannar in the background.)

We took a little break from curtain making, after overdosing on it two days in a row the week before. But soon Ríkey was back with her sewing kit, and back at work making our house look nicer. We paid her in food. 🙂

Back in June, Anna asked if she could go on a horse-riding course. These things run in June and July, and are generally fully booked long in advance. Lucky for us though, there were openings in July, so on 9 July Anna began her week-long course. Right off the bat she looooooved it, so we quickly booked the next week too. The course ran from 9am to noon, Mon through Fri, and was run by Viking Horses, which happen to be located about 7 minutes away from us by car.
On the last day, 20 July, Finnur went to pick her up, and arrived early enough to see her arrive on ‘her’ horse, Sproti (she had the same horse the whole time except for the first day). Here are some pics:

Back when we lived in California, Finnur had three Icelandic work colleagues located in Canada. One has now relocated to Iceland, another to Sweden, but the third has remained in Canada, and we generally refer to him as Canada-Siggi. 🙂
Canada-Siggi and his family were in Iceland this summer, and we invited them for dinner, because we hadn’t seen them in so many years! (Past encounters here (2004 in Montreal), here (2005 in CA), here (2005 in CA), here (2005 in CA), and here (2006 in CA).)
