Do. All. The. Things. Part. England
[Photos taken 22 – 26 October 2022, posted online 01 July 2023. After a mostly miserable and fall-like June, we might get a week of nice weather starting tomorrow.]
The younger kids got two days of winter-break towards the end of October, so we decided to journey to England and say hi to (grand)dad, Shirley, and Anthony.
I made the unilateral decision that Anna would not be traveling with us, since she was busy at university (they have four 12-week courses, followed by one 3-week group-work-course). Thus this was the first trip abroad with just Emma and Bjarki tagging along.

May-Mayhem: E-biking Lundarreykjadalur & Eyrarfjall, Recitals & Scotland-Soccer
[Photos taken 08 – 15 May 2022, posted online 20 November 2022. I fell in to serious TV-binge mode this weekend, been a long while since the last one. I’m in denial about Christmas being around the corner.]
The madness that was May continued with two e-bike rides in one week, two music school recitals, trying to figure out what to do about Emma’s somewhat injured foot, a bike-to-work challenge, rushing to clear the yard of leaves and branches, and Finnur traveling to Scotland to play in a soccer tournament (“old boys” division). Liverpool Trip & Tim Minchin
[Photos from 01 November 2019, posted online 13 May 2020. The weather has switched to full-on spring (chilly though) and Covid cases are declining rapidly, but one or two are still popping every now and then.]
Many moons and what feels like several life-times ago, I bought tickets to see Tim Minchin perform live in Liverpool. (Yes, it was an excellent fall show-wise for the nerd in me!) The grand plan was to go see his show on a Friday, then attend an Everton home football game on the Saturday (my first!), and fly back home to the kiddos on Sunday morning.
As luck would have it, the game got moved to Sunday, so the plan got changed. I would still go home Sunday morning (and miss the game), but Finnur would attend the game with a few other Icelanders, and then travel to London to work at the London office for three days, with a cozy room and board at my dad’s and Shirley’s house.

UK Easter Break
[Photos from 18 – 22 April 2019, posted online 07 October 2019. Hey, it’s a brand new week!]
Early on a Thursday morning I made my way to Keflavik airport, and flew to London, arriving early enough that I could take the kids to a trampoline park in the afternoon!
The following days, Anna and I went shopping, and the two of us also journeyed to London where we met Pétur & Signý for lunch, and saw Hamilton!
On Easter Day, the kids got huge chocolate eggs, we ate fantastic food, and also took the younger kids on a walk, and to two playgrounds. Anna claimed she was too old for those outings!!
On the Monday after Easter Day, we hugged our hosts goodbye, and flew on home to Iceland, where happily the weather had turned for the better. (80-ish photos total!)

November 2018 – The End
[Photos taken 19 – 30 November 2018, posted online 18 May 2019. Trees are getting noticeably green. Yay for spring! ]
Finnur was gone on a weeklong trip to the UK to work in London + go see a football game in Liverpoool, so I was in charge of dinner, which is usually Finnur’s domain. Enter going out to dinner a lot!
Also, the following occurred in the span of 12 days: Bjarki visited my workplace, bikes tires got switched to studded, bedroom rearrangement plans were made, a new bed was scouted, I attended a funeral, Emma showed off gymnastics skills, there was ice skating, Finnur attended a football game and got a prized selfie, yule-tide outside-lights were scouted,
Finnur arrived home, we went out to dinner (a lot), work happened, and I shot skeets for the first time (3 out of 5 hits!) as well as participated in a murder-mystery role-playing game with my coworkers. Yup, two things struck off the bucket list in one day!
I’ve come to the conclusion that the entirety of November 2018 was nuts! (50-ish images)

Sewing Club Edinburgh Trip
[Photos from 27-30 September 2018, posted online 14 April 2019. Finnur hopped to Toronto and back this past week!]
A “sewing club” I belong to (which does no sewing, except of the social kind) went on its second weekend trip abroad this past autumn, this time to Edinburgh. (Gasp, I just realized I never posted any photos from our trip to Prague!!)
We rented a really nice apartment on airbnb, that had individual bathrooms per bedroom (a must for future excursions!) and we all had a grand time! (90-ish images total)

Winter-Break Trip to England
[Photos from 24-29 February 2016, posted on 01 March 2016. Yes, it’s my birthday! 🙂]
Long before I fell and broke my ankle, we’d bought tickets for the whole family to visit England over the kids’ winter school break.
All the doctors I talked to leading up to the trip said that I should be able to travel, but I was doubtful because my foot would get swollen and painful very fast when down low. Then the cast came off (on a Tuesday) and I realized that the majority of the pain was from my swollen skin pushing up against the cast, so the odds of going to England the next day went from 10% to 90%.
Then I looked at the seats I’d booked, and realized that we’d have two adjacent window seats on the correct side of the plane, meaning I could keep my leg on the armrest in front of me. Thus I decided I would go after all, because a change of scenery is always a good thing. Happily, we discovered that Easyjet has pretty flimsy seats, so there was plenty of space for my leg. (Icelandair has bulkier seats, and the gap between the seatback and the fuselage is smaller.)
Also, compressure socks are amazing! (41 images total, including TWO PHOTOS of SCARS 13 images down as Friday begins)
An Early-Bird Christmas Vacation
Once I found out that I’d be all done with final exams on December 5th, I went right ahead and bought tickets for us to spend 10 days in the UK before Christmas with dad et al. It’s always nice to change scenery, and get a little extra daylight over the darkest bit of the year in Iceland. So to England we flew, and spent the days mostly just hanging out at my dad’s, oh and I did a bit of shopping too. 🙂
