Day #6 in St. Brieuc – Tree Climbing Adventure Park
[Photos taken on Friday 14 July 2017, posted online on 18 November 2017. We’ve had snow on the ground for a week now.]
As is by now a custom, we located a tree-climbing adventure park near our house.
Even though 14 July is Bastille Day, we were happy to find out the park was open. This one even had activities for small children but only with supervision, which suited us very well, since Finnur was unable to climb due to his recently broken collar bone. (31 images, 2 gifs, 1 video).
Day #4 in St. Brieuc – Rennes
[Photos taken on Wednesday 12 July 2017, posted online on 12 November 2017. The trees still have snow on their branches. Love the windlessness.]
This wednesday the weather forecast for St. Brieuc called for thunder and massive rain. We therefore decided to drive inland to the city of Rennes, to shop for clothes, and visit a kid’s science museum.
Sadly, we misunderstood the directions on the website, and instead of getting to enjoy the funnest part of the science museum, the group got stuck watching a film about stars in the planetarium because the science museum (“Merlin’s laboratory”) was sold out that day. (Anna and I missed the whole kerfuffle, as we were shopping.)
Afterwards we tried to find a place that was open for dinner at 6 pm. Thankfully, Óli found a pizza place that was open, and it had great pizzas! (9 images total)
Day #3 in St. Brieuc – Paimpol
[Photos taken on Tuesday 11 July 2017, posted online on 11 November 2017. Second proper snow-day of this winter in Iceland today.]
The weather forecast for this day wasn’t very appealing, so we opted to just drive to a nearby town, walk around for a bit, stop at an old abbey, and then pretty much just drive back home!
Sometimes calm-ish days are the best. (38 images total)
Day #2 in St. Brieuc – ZooParc de Trégomeur
[Photos taken on Monday 10 July 2017, posted online on 04 November 2017. First proper freeze of this winter in Iceland today.]
On day #2 in France, Anna and I walked downtown to go shopping for clothes. Afterwards we joined Holla and Óli in visiting a nearby zoo. We then all congregated at our house to eat dinner together. (39 images total)
Day #1 in St. Brieuc – Martin Beach in Plérin
[Photos taken on Sunday 09 July 2017, posted online on 02 November 2017. Back from the UK!]
As the first real dip below freezing point is about to hit us here in Iceland, it must be a good time to post photos from this past summer!?!
This was our first full day in France. I think Finnur ventured out to buy milk at a small store that was open until noon on a Sunday, and then we visited a nearby beach with Holla and Óli. (29 images total)
Day #0 in St. Brieuc – The Trip There
[Photos taken on Saturday 08 July 2017, posted online on 29 October 2017. We’re all in the UK!]
For our summer vacation, we decided to follow some friends of ours to St. Brieuc in France. They were doing a home swap, but we opted to rent a home via airbnb.
We ended up flying to Rennes airport via Amsterdam, and all in all the trip went fine.
The biggest stress was when our friends (who’d already arrived in the area) notified us that all the grocery stores would be closed the following day, so we had to make an emergency stop at the supermarket, which delayed our arrival to the house. Our host graciously waited for us, so it all worked out in the end. (17 images total)
Horse Camp Photo Essay and Daycare Closes Early
[Photos taken on Friday 07 July 2017, posted online on 23 October 2017. Finnur’s in the UK.]
I asked Anna to send me snaps of her last day at horse camp, and she sent me a whole photo-essay!
This was also the day that Emma’s daycare closed down at 1 pm for a four (4!!) week long summer holiday. Not having much to do, we decided to go visit Finnur/daddy at his office, and hang out at the beach by his workplace before fetching the big kids from camp.
The day ended with Bjarki getting a haircut, and us packing for our trip to France the morning after. (40 images total)
Walks and Horses
[Photos taken on 03 July to 06 July 2017, posted online on 19 October 2017. Raspberry and chocolate mix well.]
During the last week before our summer holiday officially started, I went out on walks, and the big kids hung out a horse camp for the fourth week in a row! (28 images total)

Bjarki’s 10th Birthday Celebration
[Photos taken on 02 July 2017, posted online on 17 October 2017. The days are getting noticeably shorter.]
We’ve come a long way from the Night of Extreme Drama, some 10 years ago. Yes, that means, Bjarki’s now 10 years old!
To celebrate, we held a customary birthday bash for family and friends. Just to see how it would go, we sourced almost all the food at Costco, which went fairly well.
On to the photos (18 images total)!
The Groundhog Days of June 2017
[Photos taken on 06 June 2017 to 01 July 2017, posted online on 14 October 2017. Fall colors everywhere!]
In retrospect, we spent June in large part waiting for July to begin, with its summer vacation. To pass the time, the big kids went to horse camp, while Emma continued on in daycare, and the adults kept showing up for work.
Aside from meeting friends and family, and Finnur breaking his collar bone, it was all a bit Groundhog Day-y! (111 images total!!!!)
