Toothless & Almost on Vacation
[Photos taken on 01-09 July 2018, posted on 31 December 2018. Snow lost the battle with rain and warmth.]
While we were catching our breaths after the madness that was June, Emma lost her first tooth, we celebrated by visiting the farm animal & family park, I hid at various cafes, the grass got moved, we summer-housed more, and hair got cut, as we mentally prepared ourselves for going on summer vacation for real! Our Very Own Summer House
[Photos taken on 09-17 June 2018, posted on 29 December 2018. We finally got a touch a frost, and an inkling of snow.]
We now own a summer house. It’s been a long time coming, with both of us following summer house listings for over a year. Yes, we’ve been quite happy with the summer house Finnur and his siblings inherited from their grandparents, but as all the kids have gotten bigger, space has gotten smaller, and fitting everyone in was getting increasingly difficult.
So, we bought a house. It’s in the west of Iceland, has three bedrooms, a potential for a fourth, and very unusually, it has a huge garage, or “recreational room with a large door”, as it’s formally known. We decided this would be a great room to have kids hang out in, and so far it’s worked out well. (65-ish images total)

Summer (House) Prelude
[Photos taken on 01-08 June 2018, posted on 26 December 2018. We’ve had a lovely yule, albeit weirdly warm, with zero chance of snow.]
Sometime in May, we made an offer to buy a summer house, and much to our shock, it was accepted. The formal exchange was scheduled for 9 June, so until then I spent most after-work hours scouting various furniture and household stores. I hadn’t quite realized we’d essentially need to double all our stuff?!
In between there were Emma pick-ups, a gymnastics show, flowers got planted, others grew, Finnur kept working on the wall, school ended, and the sun shone quite a lot. (40-ish images)

The Leaning Wall Fix of 2018
[Photos taken on 12-19 May 2018, posted on 16 December 2018. It’s wet and warm outside. Finnur’s in the USA, expected to return in a couple of days.]
In a fit of insanity/curiosity/too-much-sleep I decided to dig a large hole behind the sloping wall in our backyard, “to see what was behind it”. This ended with Finnur completely dismantling the whole wall, and rebuilding it, now with drainage, in the hopes that it won’t start leaning again any time soon. This project took the whole entire summer to complete!
Aside from that, live went on as usual! (20-ish photos total)

Snow in May 2018
[Photos taken on 03-05 May 2018, posted on 02 December 2018. It is chilly but pretty with clear skies outside. Long time since any precipitation came down.]
A few photos of when winter was trying to hold on, but summer was’t really having it. (12 images total)

April Solo Parenting Part 1/2
[Photos taken on 20 – 25 April 2018, posted on 16 November 2018. After a few frosty days, we are back to warm weather, with lots of rain, and wind.]
The day after the big confirmation party, Finnur took off on a 10-day-long work-trip to the UK. While he was away I held down the fort the best I could, with minimally exciting dinners, and early bedtimes for all.
We did a bunch of things though. For example, Bjarki participated in a gymnastics meet, we met visitors from the US, went out in the country, met with family and friends, went swimming, and did what needed to be done so that everybody was clothed and fed! (45-ish images total)

Hildur Sif’s Confirmation Party
[Photos taken on 19 April 2018, posted on 03 November 2018. Second swimming pool visit this week today, yay!]
After a photography lull (what a long long winter!), I decided to bring my gear to Hildur’s confirmation party. Anna and Halli had managed to reserve a really nice gathering hall through Halli’s worker’s association, which made everything easier.
I took about a gazillion photos that day, and some 300 were deemed ‘ok’. Here are some of them! (55 images total)
Uncle Arnar Turns 50!
[Photos taken on 15 April 2018, posted on 02 November 2018. WordPress has some new editor, which may or may not break the site.]
Somehow, my uncle Arnar (who is only a hop and a skip older than I am) is now 50 years old! To celebrate, he hosted a small get-together with the closest family members and some friends. (24-ish images total)
A Theatrical April Week
[Photos taken on 07-14 April 2018, posted on 01 November 2018. WordPress has some new editor, which may or may not break the site.]
April trudged onward with more sunlight, and the promise of spring.
Gathering these images today, I only just realized what a crazy week this was, with sporty school, friends visiting, hanging out with family, Anna acting in a school play, and attending a big ball, us going to see Rocky Horror, Bjarki managing to score a big bump on his head, and the tree trimmers finally having time for us. Fire!
[Photos taken on 05-06 April 2018, posted on 24 October 2018. Spent over an hour out in the freezing cold wind to support the women’s strike downtown today.]
As I was driving to work after the gym on a cloudless gorgeous April morning, a gray smoke cloud over by where I work caught my attention. On closer inspection the house multipurpose commercial/industrial building next door to my workplace was engulfed in flames! (28 images total)
(It turned out later that the center area of the building, aka where the fire started from an electrical fault, didn’t have water sprinklers, as it had started out being the LazyTown filming studio (and thus mostly empty) before Icewear came along and filled it with flammable clothing. Nobody seemed to realized the fire prevention system was not up to the task…)
