Happy New Year!! :)
Ok, this is technically a day late, but
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 🙂
Since it’s a new year and all, I figured it might be fun to look over the year the was – for this blog. First off, a tally of visits and pageviews per day:
It does look like the blog has more visitors on average at the end of the year than it did at the beginning of the year, so yay! Still, we’re talking maybe 10-15 additional peeps, so the numbers aren’t exactly staggering. But still… at least someone still bothers to stop by once in a while.
The huge peak there on 11 June 2012 is from when my brother Nökkvi and his lovely Jóhanna got married (and I got to play ‘photographer’), and the smaller peaks correspond with events we’ve posted on Facebook and/or Google+. The pageviews follow the visitors trends, except when I post multiple pages over a short amount of time.
Here’s a slightly clearer view of visitors vs. unique visitors, this time per week:
It does look like some new people came along in August and decided to stay (mostly). All in all the system (Google Analytics) recorded 3439 visitors, of which 76.59% visited more than once, which means some 2633 visitors visited more than once. By the end of the year, we have about 130 unique visitors coming by every week. That’s actually quite a lot of people! (Hello there lurkers… 🙂 )
Now, where are all those people coming from? Well, lets look at a map of the world, broken down by city:
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of our visitors come from Iceland, Reykjavik to be exact (and the home of the big Icelandic ISPs). Visits from the top five cities qualify as ‘a visit a day’-cities (Reykjavik, San Jose, Copenhagen, Berkeley and Greenville) while the next two come pretty close (Hafnarfjörður and Chatham (Hi Dad!)). Rounding out the top ten cities are Christchurch, Horsens, and Boston. Hi all! 🙂
Just for kicks I zoomed in on the US cities as well:
Not surprisingly we seem to have quite a few visitors harking from Silicon Valley, our old stomping ground. Also represented are old friends that have moved away from the Bay Area (I’m guessing) and/or parents (moms!) of our US friends. It’s lovely that you seem to care still. 🙂
So yes, that was the year 2012 from a blog point of view.
I’m not making any promises for the future, but I seem to suffer from a tendency to over-share and a perverse need to document my life in words and pictures. Linking back to events-that-were never stops being fun (although, it’s sad to see the age creep on), and lets face it, my memory isn’t what it used to be, so it feels even more important to write things down.
Which basically means the blog lives to see yet another year, it’s thirteenth year of operation! I hope it’s a good one! 🙂
