Breaking the Bus Barrier
Today I decided to try something ‘new’. Yes, I took a bus for the first time in probably a decade (if not more)!
My goal was to get from our home to Finnur’s workplace, and to collect the car for some errands. I was running a little late, so I didn’t fancy a 90 minute walk (according to Google Maps), so instead I took a bus some of the way there, and walked the rest (40 minutes). The whole trip still took me almost an hour.

I’ve contemplated taking the bus before, but never acted on it. My main problem: No change at home to pay for the exact fare. Today’s solution: I opened Anna’s piggy bank and borrowed some money. When I boarded the bus though, I remembered that ‘back in the old days’ the drivers would sometimes sell discounted 10-trip tickets. Luckily for me, this one had exactly one of those to sell, and I had the cash to buy. Thus Anna’s money could be safely returned.

A modern-ish structure where I got off the bus (at Hamraborg), that houses lots of culture-ish things. Those blue-ish tiles (copper?) were all the rage some ten years ago or so for fancy new structures. I can’t say I was ever a big fan.

Walking along the coastline towards the Reykjavik University, where Finnur shares an office with a workmate.

This is the ‘Warning – Dangerous Path’-path that lies pretty close to the ocean, and can probably get a bit scary when the weather is rough. Further to the right lies the ‘proper’ path, which is paved.

I arrived late enough to miss lunch with Finnur, so after saying a quick hello, I went to the restaurant Nauthóll that lives behind Reykjavik University, and ate lunch there. The place seemed to be very popular with ‘the ladies that lunch’, but since I was solo, I just read stuff on my phone.
After lunch, I headed off to run my errands, before collecting Finnur again at the end of the day.
As is customary on Tuesdays, I ended the day by taking Bjarki to his swim-school session, which is held in the indoor-pool of our local swimming pool. Much to my surprise the outdoor pool was much busier than usual, even though the temperature was 3C/37F, and it was dark, raining and blowing a cool breeze! Not only was there traffic in the three remaining swimming lanes (the formal sports-club swim practice eats up three lanes around 5 pm), but the hot tubs were well populated, and kids were playing chasing games which involved climbing the two-story high unenclosed stairwell up to the slide entrance!
I did have a lovely swim though, and an equally lovely water-jet massage, so maybe the people at the pool weren’t so crazy after all? 🙂
