Bike Shopping / Dyrehave / Bakken Walkabout

[Photos taken 14 August 2025, posted online 10 October 2026. Finnur’s just returned from a work-trip to Munich. Time marches on.]

If you live in Denmark, you must own a bicycle. It is just a fact of life. Leaving Finnur with the two younger ones to relax for the day, I headed out with the newbie Danes to find bikes that wouldn’t break their budget.

We started at a cool bike-shop that specializes in refurbishing old bikes. We didn’t find any that really worked for them, so we moved on. A short walk away we did find one bike that got bought.

That evening, the three of us took the new bike, and two from the airbnb house, on a bike-ride in Dyrehave, accidentally ending up at the Bakken amusement park where we walked around for a bit, before biking back.

By the bikes outside the cool Buddha bikes shop.
I didn’t leave the house until noon-ish, and spotted this lone flower in the greenery.
Cute statue in the garden, watching over the lavender.
The parking lot by the bike shop was very colorful.
Anna trying out a bike. The gearshifts were quite different from what I’m used to.
Art everywhere!
A house for young people. No drinks or drugs.
We gave up on the cool shop, and walked a little ways to visit another bike shop. There we found a bike that was big enough, and within budget. However, it was too big to fit inside the car, so it had to be biked home!
A relaxing dinner at the house.
I still had energy to burn, so I got the bike-seekers to go with me on a ride in nearby “Dyrahave” (“The Deer Park”).
We saw some deer in the distance…
… and a horse! Turns out there were quite a few horse-this and that by the park.
Cuties!
Quite a pretty area.
Proof I was there.
All of a sudden we reached civilization.
Not only did we stumble upon civilization, but a whole amusement park!
Look, a wooden roller-coaster!! Yup, this was Bakken.
Blood-sugar refill.
We didn’t go on any rides, just walked around. It’s not a big park.
We found a map!…
… and prices!
Biking back. Unfortunately the way back was almost entirely uphill.
More deer!
Denmark is remarkably flat, but also weirdly hilly, especially when riding on rather crappy bikes.
Back on asphalt, after which returning all the way home was easy.
