[Photos taken 09 – 15 March 2025, posted online 26 October 2025. First snow of the winter season fell overnight, not nearly enough to cover up the grass, but the nights have been cold enough that it’s sticking around.]
This year’s confirmation season was relatively quiet, with only one cousin ascending to the halls of “being counted as an adult” (the wording is probably from when kids were big enough to participate fully in farm-work?). I was happy to take photos of the confirmed-one-to-be, although yet again I swore to one day really update my gear, so I don’t have to fight the lighting quite so much.
That same weekend, Bjarki and two buddies scored the third place in a programming competition, and each got $80/EUR70/ISK10000 for their hard work. The rest of the week saw warmer weather, a haircut, a swim, a ladies lunch, I hosted a sewing club, and we went on an outing to a theatrical production paired with wine.
Lastly, be warned that at the very bottom of the page are a couple of photos of a burst ganglion cyst…

This year’s confirmation-cousin.
A nice moment with kitty.
Over the years I’ve learnt to ask people to have props ready so that the kids have something to do with their hands. It sure helps when kiddos have multiple interests!
Wearing a family heirloom from her mother’s side. Right now I’m too lazy/short on time to erase the flash-supports.
Outfit change! And showing her genetic heritage from her father’s side!
The ice-skates came out!
Welcome to the count of the adults, still growing one!
The setup, they have a nice long space to set up in.
They all got t-shirts with their team-name printed, his team was “Byte me”. Classic!
Certificate of placement.

Seedling-check. We had to remember to water them occasionally!

It was suddenly quite warm out, and I walked to get a haircut.
Post-haircut. I should have taken a before photo!
Time for a quick evening swim.

Ladies lunch, always a pleasure to catch up!
Quick peek inside Reykjavik University. Anna was busy somewhere, oh well.

It was my turn to host a sewing club, and I decided to actually cook dinner for a change. I found a protein-rich recipe to slow-cook… because proteins are everything these days.
I couldn’t find the exact spice blend the recipe asked for so this ended up going in.
In retrospect, I should have browned the turkey bits before assembly. The whole thing tasted fine, and ended up fully cooked, but the outside texture of the turkey was a bit weird.
Unusually colorful lunch. I worked from home that day.
Sewing club getting under way.
The dessert.
It was a lovely evening!

Oh. My. Goodness. My poor legs!
My evil, yet lovable, brother, responsible for the programming.
My arch-nemesis: the stairs up from the changing rooms to the exit-floor.
I made it!
That green thing is fake grass, but the temperature outside wasn’t too bad.
New fancy-fruit-box, with some veggies thrown in as an experiment. Apparently the veggies proved unpopular, and were not repeated.
That evening we had a performance outing planned, to see a one-man-show on Napoleon, paired with wine.
Finnur outside the small venue.
Servers distributing drinks before the show started.
The main man mid-action.
The people we knew, during intermission.
It was an energetic show, albeit sometimes a little bit confusing with all the different names and characters being thrown around (he performed both sides in multiple conversations), running back and forth, but fun was had!
Period appropriate decorations in the adjoining rooms. The performance space is in the extended basement of a somewhat large house downtown.

WARNING!
BELOW HERE IS A RATHER DISGUSTING PHOTO OF WHAT
HAPPENS WHEN A GANGLION CYST ON A FINGER RUPTURES.
You have been warned, scroll at your own risk!!
Like, really!
Last chance to stop!!
Ok, you’re proceeding at your own risk!!
This is sort of an FYI, if people are into those sorts of things. Basically, I rubbed my ganglion cyst the wrong way (I may have given it a very mild squeeze to lessen the pain), and the stretched skin suddenly ruptured…!! Turns out, the cyst is indeed just made up of clear gel!! I squeezed out as much as I could, and then went about cleaning it up.
Later that evening after a dinner with friends. Apparently, it’s not great when this happens, because it opens up a path deep into the body that germs can get into. But I got lucky, and it didn’t get infected. It also lessened the pressure a lot, which was appreciated.
