[Photos taken 01 – 11 February 2025, posted online 07 September 2025. Having a relatively quiet weekend, and am a little shocked that it’s September already. Starting to repaint and reorganize Anna’s room in her absence.]
For some reason, the weekends in the new year were densely packed with meets and greets. I will admit that the pressure of starting a new job in January plus all the socializations left my mental batteries stretched somewhat to the limit, so much so that I had to start postponing non-essential things. Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoy meeting people, but it’s exhausting at the same time!?
Live and learn, I guess.

On my way to the summerhouse for an overnight stay. This is what happens during serious melts! The original plan was for this to be a buddy weekend for Finnur, but as most of the buddies couldn’t make it, it got turned into a three-couples weekend. They were lovely!
Gobs of protein for starters. Yum!
Perfectly cooked beef for mains! These guys are the only ones capable of shooing Finnur out of his kitchen-kingdom!
Oh yeah! Get in my tummy!
Dessert was amazing too. Having actual chefs visit is quite the experience!

The quick thaw was, of course, followed by snowfall!
The channels next to the road were still flooded though…
Part of the dam that makes the lake.
Obligatory refueling stop in Borgarnes.
Mount Hafnarfjall was barely visible.
It was a quiche kind of day.
The mounts trying hard to fight the clouds off…
I’d made a date-night reservation many moons ago, and we decided to keep it.
We were feeling quite full after the feast the night before, so we kept it simple.
Downtown Reykjavik was dark and somewhat dreary with very minimal snow about.

Our little bathroom, where the extra toilet paper either lives on an open shelf or on the floor. I’m hoping we can get it renovated (with some storage, and a correct floor slant) before long…

The outside…
… the inside.
Working on a new headband for Emma. She wanted a green one.
Wednesday 05 February 2025
Some customers having a snack. I worked from home as the weather forecast was please-don’t-go-out-bad.
If I recall correctly, that day’s gym session was cancelled due to a nasty storm, but brother dear sent out the plan so I did my best to do some of it at home.
Managed to work up a sweat!
Coming along nicely. These take two days to make, max.
Modeled. She later decided it was a little too tight on her head…
Drying after a wash.
Thursday 06 February 2025
The veggie boxes looking quite torn up.
The spring weather-whiplashes kept coming, but the snow-piles hung on.
I decided it was time to get Emma actual tennis-shoes, and her own racket.
She quite enjoys tennis, and I quite enjoy that she quite enjoys some sport!
Dinner in the making… Finnur had gone up to the summer house to prep stuff for our visitors.
Approaching being done.
I had signed up for a hiking group, but hadn’t walked at all for a long time, so I hauled my ass to the gym after dinner to hang out on the stair machine for a bit.

Love in a coffee cup?
Fridays mean sugary dessert at work, always imported from some factory kitchen somewhere far far away. It’s somehow nigh impossible to resist!
Still daylight at 6 pm (18:00)… !!!! Yaaaay!!!
Dinner of champions…
When I arrived at the summer house that evening, the car charger was not happy. Upon further examination, the wire seemed to have gotten pulled out of the socket, as the beam the socket was on had come loose in the wind. A more detailed examination would have to wait until morning…
Saturday 8 February 2025
I’d made an error in my sweater, and I’d done such a bad job fixing it that I decided to start all over again…
Emma coloring.
Next up was taking care of the sad socket. The wire had in fact gotten pulled out by nature’s forces, and Finnur went to town to both buy dinner supplies and a new socket.
Emma’s artwork.
Enjoying a bit of snow.
Us ladies decided to walk ‘the circle’ in the neighborhood. Found a pretty stream.
The gathering area is getting more friendly every year with more benches.
A little while later a new socket had been connected by yours truly.
Temporary installation-fix as we didn’t have a masonry drill with us. Sandbags coming in handy!
Success!
We thank the lamb for being there for us.
The number of kids willing to make the trip with us keeps getting smaller…
Sunday 9 February 2025
A cozy start to the day.
The girls did a good job cleaning up the art table.
Obligatory Borgarnes refueling stop!
Mount Hafnarfjall mostly hiding.
The weather was not great.
A few hours after we arrived in town it was time to meet up with some ex-colleagues of mine for a dinner and a chat!
This little local pizza place was super busy, as the pizzas were good! I never knew it existed!
Dessert next door!
Emma starting to shed her toys, now that she was almost 12 years old.
Monday 10 February 2025
Chatting to a doctor with and about Emma feeling miserable during sports activities. It now appears she might might asthmatic?
The jet streams in the hot tub at my gym going all out, as the water level was unusually low.
Tuesday 11 February 2025
We walked to a parent-teacher meeting at the school, and discovered the crazy weather had played absolute havoc on the grounds.
The kids were slowly, but surely, demolishing the chairs at school. This fall they’ve been replaced by chairs from solid plastic.
Finally, some solid progress on the sweater, as I resigned myself to having to track what I was doing line by line…
