Downtown Brunch / Stina Concert / Halloween

2024-10-26Uncategorized Standard

[Photos taken 26 – 31 October 2024, posted online 19 February 2025. I’m still sick, spent most of yesterday horizontal, and there is very little braining going on.]

We had a gift-card for brunch for two from Christmas, and managed to get some friends to join us downtown. Afterwards we perused the Kolaportid market.

I helped install yet another laundry system, tried to solve a drawer-ful design-riddle, did some nature-bathing by walking among trees, there was a lovely sewing club, and I attended the release party of my old classmate Stína,

Then, all of a sudden, it was Halloween!

Squinting into the sun outside the brunch restaurant.
It’s essentially a hotel-attached restaurant, with a brunch-buffet open to the public.
A colorful start.
Moving on to more earthy tones.
Desserts, yum!
Departing quite full!
Across the street is the “restaurant” with the biggest profit to footprint ratio in town: The Bæjarins Beztu hot-dog stand.
To the right were more of the stately houses of downtown.
A little further along, towards the sea, there’s a weird ramp down to nowhere.
Tuns out it was one of the old docks. The coastline has been expanded out over the years, as seen in the light gray of this schematic.
Areal photo of what the coast used to look like.
We decided to enter the Kolaportið market for a bit. This was probably my first visit in some decades…
It hadn’t changed much, still a bunch of stalls with people selling their production.
The cat-hats were cute.
Home-knitted sweaters.
A table of stickers!
I got a few to decorate my laptop, so it would be easier to recognize.
I bumped into one of Emma’s teachers from daycare back in the day! She’s also a woodworker!
Checking out the “antiques” part of the market.
Back home. This was attempt number 2 at taming the open closet.
For a little while I’d entertained the notion that it would be good to see what’s in which drawer. However, the drawers themselves turned out to be defective: The panel was crooked, came up out of the frame higher on one side, and the “easy-slide” mechanism was anything but easy and slide-y.
Just to test how three in a row would look (not great with random things inside). That black one was destined to go hide inside another closet. Thankfully Ikea accepted all the glass-drawers back as they were clearly defective (the packaging and the sliders were markedly different from those with the black drawer.)

It was a gorgeous day, but chilly.
More laundry system installation work ahead.
Drillin’!
Another spot-the-birdy. They’d cleaned the white berries off of that shrub very fast!
Working on the second sleeve.

Nature-bathing.

Tuesday 29 October 2024

Luxurious-habits are hard to break.
More nature-bathing.
The battle between tall trees and airport landing clearance was beginning to ramp up.
Sewing-club time!
So fancy!!
Yes, please!!

Wednesday 30 October 2024

Geese working hard to find food.
A knobby tree.
I picked up a colorful fruit box.
At the car shop. The front wheel of one of the cars started squealing and the shop kindly told us to stop by. Turns out a nail from a studded car tire had lodged itself stuck in an unfortunate place, but they quickly got it out.
After gymming, I made my way downtown to eat dinner, and attend the release concert of the record Yours Unfaithfully, by my old classmate Stina.
We thoroughly enjoyed the concert and all the new material!!
Lots of hugs and kisses ensued afterwards!
When I came home, it was to four pumpkins outside the house. They’d been busy carving in my absence!
Close-up of the first two.

Chairs are apparently overrated…?

Emma’s Halloween-themed reading log.
Headed to CostCo to find Halloween candy.
Hmmm… the weather wasn’t really cooperating.
Ugh, snow!
A building trying to hide.
I’d given up on my mousy-colored hair, and went in for a lightening.
Decorations being put out in spite of the wind.
Blond again!
I’m not a big fan of continually having to open the door, so yet again I just put out a bowl and instructions to take one per guest.
Emma about to go hunt for candy. She returned a short while later to find a hat and thicker gloves. It was really quite cold outside.
Getting busy.
A steady stream of guests, while I kept the lights on in the pumpkins (the wind kept blowing them out), and restocked the bowl.
They came in swarms!
Emma was quite please with her haul.
