Confirmation / New Bed / Office Move
[Photos taken 13 – 24 April 2024, posted online 25 August 2024. Last night, we drove past the active volcano that erupted this past Thursday, as we had dinner with friends that live close by. Was cool, erm, fiery! ]
The second confirmation party of this season was lovely. (We had invites for three others, but were traveling for all of them!?!). I took a few photos of the newly-confirmed-one before the party started, which is always so much fun.
The following days were busy with Emma finally getting a bigger bed, some spring cleaning, haircuts, moving offices at work, and goodbye events, although I still had a good month to go at work.

Confirmation flowers as table decoration.
Test-shot with the little-used big camera. Emma wasn’t overly fond of the interruption.
The party-room was in a party-building!
Candy-tables are all the rage.
Finishing touches being put on the decorations.
My gear.
Younger brothers passing the time.
The newly confirmed one.
I’ve taken to asking the kids to bring props, to combat the “what do I do with my hands?!”-issue. This one prefers playing the white side.
Sorry madame mom, can I borrow you from your balloon duties for a bit?
All five!
Embarrassing the poor teen with cuteness.
Costume change!
Gaining a healthy respect for sports-photographers! Timing and posing is super tricky!! Also, my background isn’t really wide enough for so much action!
We went outside for a bit, but it was quite chilly…!
Impressive kicking!
A little while later the party started for real. A good crowd was there to cheer on yet another adult-in-training!
The food was delicious.
Our kiddos.
Flower close-up. Phone-cameras are weirdly good.
After the confirmation party, I dropped my in-laws off at the annual Edda awards , where a close co-worker of Finnur’s dad was getting honored.
Picking the two cheerful ones up at the end of the night.

Spring means getting rid of the literal mountain of stuff that always accumulates in the garage over winter.
The iron fireplace had arrived in the thickest cardboard box I’ve ever encountered. There was no bending it, only cutting it!!
In desperate need of additional blood sugar, with nuts to make it “healthy”, hehe…
Finnur was away on a work-trip, so I sent him a photo of a winter jacket from his youth, unused for decades, and gave him a chance to save it from the recycling center. It did not get saved.
Three hours later, the floor was visible again.
It looks like I’m doing these clear-outs more often, as the car wasn’t really that full of stuff. Progress?
It is very helpful that the recycling center stays open until 18:30 every day.
After all this, I’d earned not cooking, so I took the girls to Ikea for dinner. Bjarki passed and ate something else.
Decent food is decent.
The view from the cantina.
Since we were there, I had Emma try the mattresses, and ended up buying one for the bedframe that was in transit.
After dinner I stopped by at a pick-up site to fetch some beef. This is the newest fashion: Unmanned pick-up locations for small web-shop-only producers. You gain entry with a QR-code.
My bag of frozen meat.

Met my aunt at the car-inspection site, and had a good chat.
The car passed inspection!
Slow sunset in progress at 21 (9 pm).

A friend couldn’t make it so I took a photo of that day’s program.
The “data corner” was close to dissolving into silly giggles, as we’d both resigned on the same day the previous month (it was unplanned!). We still made a point of always having +80% chocolate on hand.
That lunchtime, nobody wanted the food at Air Atlanta, so we went to the pizza place next door instead.
Walking back to our building. It was a bright, chilly day.
This was a day of action! By 5 in the afternoon, the patio couch was back out on the patio (after living in the living room since January), to take advantage of all the sunshine!
That left a perfect spot in the living room for Emma’s old sofa bed.
Back when Anna was younger, we had two mattresses in this bed so we could extend it. When her body grew, the mattresses weren’t working anymore, so we put in one good mattress instead. Since then the bed had never been extended like this. Oh well.
Emma did great in helping me clean the stuff under it, and carrying the bed downstairs.
Less than two hours after the patio couch returned to the patio, it had snowed!!!!
Emma slept on the floor that night, but she didn’t mind because she had so much mattress space!
Bjarki returning from parkour practice with a buddy. He’d started biking again, yay!
Meanwhile, the brown box containing Emma’s new bedframe sat innocently, if perhaps somewhat impatiently, on the floor… It was not from Ikea!
Having the sofa bed downstairs was slightly weird, but would be ok for a bit, before we figured out what to do with it.

Haircut time!
The old office empty, as everyone had gone over to the new office tower to sort out the seating.
I am a seating-arrangement enthusiast, and despise the “island” culture all architects seem to love. This was the layout after the first go-around. Later that night I had some improvement-thoughts… hmmm, how to convince the others…?
A colorful fruit box delivery!

Winter tires off, summer tires on!
I decided to just implement my seating and wall arrangement ideas… before anybody had moved over.
This tower is a bit special in that there is no in-built air-conditioning or air-circulation. Therefore that particular corner turns into an oven when the sun shines, and it is good practice to not have desks there.
More haircuts!
I keep forgetting how easy it is to serve fish for dinner!?

Moving time, boxes everywhere. This was the cantina space on our floor.
The black and yellow moving boxes were rented. It was a good idea!
My desk, ready for transport (I took the small things on it).
The unofficial entryway that we used.
Goodbye Holtasmári 1.
I dropped the small things off at my desk in the new office.
Saturday 20 April 2024
By 15 (3 pm) I had collected enough mental energy to open the box with Emma’s new bedframe.
Emma being helpful. It was really difficult to find a 120 cm bedframe with an attached headboard, so I had to order it in from some webstore.
Two and a half hours later (and a year since I made the upgrade-promise), Emma had a wide bed!
Sunday 21 April 2024
Finnur was back from his work-trip and we celebrated with a steak!
Monday 22 April 2024
We were asked to either work from home, or from a hot-desk, as ‘moving’ was in full force. Here’s the brand new neighborhood by the Smaralind -mall (aka The Penis Mall, due to its shape). There are still more houses slated to appear in front of those buildings.
The tower our new offices were in. This other office that the photo is taken from was in the newer “north” tower, which has proper air conditioning and is really quite nice! It would be moved out of once yet another floor in the other tower was ready.
Walking past my old office to visit a real estate office.
Met my brother, as the new apartment purchase was formally finalized. Congratulations!!
I remembered I had an unfinished Lego-kit. I need to get restarted on it, again!
Tuesday 23 April 2024
We all tend to get haircuts at the same time!
Siblings-in-cars.
Wednesday 24 April 2024
Goodbye-cake at a group meeting.
I attended a lunch-seminar on data-matters with four fine speakers.
Had to pay in full for my psoriasis medication, as the renewal paperwork hadn’t quite gone through. Thankfully I got a full refund once it did! Still, ouch.
That’s me in a t-shirt that belongs to Emma, that I’d mistakenly grabbed and put in my gym-bag. It was remarkably stretchy, but would never quite return to its old size…
Fantasy vs realism in one photo. Which one to pick as a present?… We would be sending the kiddos to a family birthday party without us old people, as we would be traveling.
As I was leaving for Amsterdam the following day, and two other people were leaving the team shortly, we all went out to a fun dinner for goodbyes!
Scrumptious pizza!
Huge tiramisu!
Fancy bar. Then I said my goodbyes, as I would have to get up really early to drive to the airport. Exciting!
