A Proper Sick Day… Finally!

I have spent the vast majority of today in bed, alternatively asleep or feeling crappy.  But it’s been oddly great because it’s the first time in a loooong while where I have been the only sick one, aaaand both kids have been at school.  So, yes, finally, a Proper Sick Day for me!  Yay! 🙂

(For those scratching their heads:  Usually one of the kids is sick at the same time, so as a parent, you don’t really get to be ‘sick’ and stay in bed all day and feel sorry for yourself.  This, dear childless folks, is a luxury!)

The bad part (aside from feeling miserable) was that I had to cancel the lecture I should have given this morning, and should have been The Last Formal Lecture of This Semester.  Instead, that honor will now fall on Thursday.  Oh well.  I got a Proper Sick Day instead.

Good thing it came up on a Tuesday, since today Bjarki got sent home from daycare with what we later learned was an ear infection. :/

Off topic: When I was in Reykjavík last Oct, I had been a book in (I think) Eymundsson – it was a thick, fairly comprehensive book written in Icelandic by an Icelander. The topic was the Westfjords, with many photographs (it was called Vestfirdir something – I forget). Although the photographs themselves were not of high quality, it was obvious that a lot of time and effort had gone into the compilation, and that the man had really spent time in the Westfjords and accessed places most people don’t go to. I tried to locate the book on the web but without success. The search engine at Eymundsson.is is not to much use. Is there any other site I should be looking at?

Update: my copy arrived a couple of days back from Eymundsson. It is a beautiful work. Too bad an English version is not available. I have to plod through the photo captions but it helps that I can recognize many place names. As for the text, I might have to wait until the day that iPhone has an app that scans and translates in realtime. I gather that Mr. Bárðarson is still alive (Google reveals that he was born in 1918).
